Wow, if you were only to watch the previews on this DVD, you would come away with the distinct impression that Disney has officially run out of original thoughts. We are just watching this DVD right now, and here are the movie previews on this disc:

Jungle Book II
Country Bears
Alantis: Milo's Return
101 Dalmations II: Patch's London Adventure
Inspector Gadget II
Stitch's New Movie
Sleeping Beauty

5 Sequals, 1 Film based on a theme park attraction, and 1 DVD release of a Disney Classic.

The only saving factor is that these happen to come on the DVD of one of the more original Disney films recently (IMHO).

So if they gave you an "original" movie, something like Treasure
Planet, would you go see it?

Well, we know the op bought the "original" L&S...

So what's your point? TP is tanking, so they should stick with sequels?

For the record:

I bought the L&S DVD, I haven't yet, but will see TP (I can't comment on it at this point), I will buy the Sleeping Beauty DVD, but I have no interest in seeing any of the other movies previewed on the L&S DVD.

I did not buy any Disney 2, and I did see and enjoy TP. But it appears that I am in a minority.

So if I was making movies, making movies to make money, it would be Disney 3, Disney 4, and maybe even *******, the movie vs Shrek on pay pay view. That is were the money is.

I noticed that tonight when I was babysitting that almost all of the previews on the DVD are sequals. I don't have anything against sequals but where do you draw the line? I mean what is the point of an Atlantis II or a 101 Dalmations II or even a Jungle Book II?

You draw the line when the artistic qauilty, cheeseyness, and awful plots come out. Look at the Atlantis preview. It looks like something interns did. The qauilty and craftsmanship is *gone*.

I refuse to purchase this garbage sequel stuff. It is an outrage. My wife wanted Cinderella II and it was painful even for her. Same with Mermaid so we will not purchase another Sequel Video in any format.

I will get Lilo and skip the previews.

You know, I wonder if all of those free tickets that Disney gave out for TP at the Disney Stores count against or for. I know for a fact even if I did not have the free tickets I still would have went and seen TP and paid for it.

Just a thought! They must have given out thousands of those tickets (two per purchase). I think you had to spend $50 in the store or something like that!

Look, hopefully at the end of 2003 Ei$ner will be gone and we can get better original movies. I read a post earlier that said Walt hated sequels. I sincerely hope that they rehire some of the more brilliant Imagineers that were let go for budgetary constraints and get back to quality Animated Movies.
