Preventing foot blisters

Everytime I go to WDW, my feet get covered with blisters from all the walking. I usually get at least 4 of 5 blisters per foot and it really detracts from my enjoyment of the trip after awhile. I know how to treat them, but I'd rather not get them at all.

This year I have decieded to be proactive and try to prevent the blisters from ever forming. My research on the net tends to point to 2 different techniques, foot lubricants (I had never heard of this before) and anti-blister socks. Has anyone here ever tired something like this? Do you know of any other techniques to prevent blisters? I would appreciate any advice I can get.

Get Teva sport sandals. Best most comfortable footwear ever.

I used spray on deodorant and it worked..I am usually a mess with blisters but I only had one and it was the day I forgot to spray on the deodorant!

My son is an avid hiker and he wears sock liners. You can buy them at Cabelas, Bass Pro, Scout shops, etc.

They also change their socks during the day. And it's important that your shoes are well broken in before going to WDW, I guess that's a common problem with hikers/walkers if they wear new shoes.

i have big problems with blisters. i swear by moleskin and blister bandaids (either bandaid brand or dr. scholls). i use the moleskin as soon as i feel a hot spot (but before there is a blister), and the blister bandaids if i don't catch it quick enough and there is a blister. i use them at home all the time too - they work like a charm. dh and i both swear by them at wdw. :)

Ya ever notice how everyone has to get brand new sneakers for their trip to WDW? And then they all wind up with blisters! ;)

I use socks that have Lycra in them - if your socks don't fit right, you will get blisters. (It's a friction thing).

I also love wearing sandles to the park - prevents the whole sock thing. Mine are from Land's End, DH got his at Nike. No blisters all summer for either one of us.

I understand the spray on deoderant - sweaty feet will get blisters (the friction thing). But how does lubricating your feet prevent blisters?

Anyway, good luck!

I use to run cross country in High School and College.

For the blisters on the toe areas I heard someone saying to use soap and scrub the inside of the sock down with it. It worked for me. For my heel, it worked a little bit but not always. I finally started using duct tape. no problem...
Used that while playing hockey too. No issues...

There you go another fix for duct tape..

Also, DO NOT get a pedicure before going. Although your toes will look lovely, you need those calluses on the bottoms of your feet so you don't get blisters. Trust me, been there, done that..........

Thanks for all the advice so far. Hopefully this next trip will be blister free. I'm thinking the deoderant and sokliners might be the way to go.

Caity: I was thinking about moleskin, but I never seem to notice hot spots till it is too late.

Diznygirl: I believe the idea is that lubricating prevents friction, thus preventing blisters.

Nebsky: Dis you cover the entire sole of you foot in duct tape, or just the heal.

sanibelover: No chance of a pedicure for this hound. Never had one, probably never will.

Sorry Hound...

I should have put that in there.
I usually did it from just below the ankle bone around to the other side. Just the heel.

I agree very much so with Caity (and thanks d=for that sunscreen tip earlier this year, Caity).....

I have a couple spots I know are susceptible to a blister, but not always. I keep both and a little scissors in my hip bag while out for the day/night. If I feel the slightest tinge, I stop, get the moleskin on right away. I use a well fitting New Balance running shoe and Thorlo running socks. Works like a charm.

This year I was totally prepared for the blisters that I usually get.

What happened was I got blisters in areas I never get blisters at!

I give up!

Dan, I precut the moleskin into several sizes and carry the flat little pieces in my pocket. No scissors to mess with and I'm ready freddy to be able to pop one onto a hotspot in an instant.

I used to get blisters and worn areas every trip I took....haven't had ANY since I discovered the moleskin.

Even my granddaughter used on her heel the last time we went. My reward was hugs and kisses for that little rescue. :p

I love thorlo socks and swear by sock liners also. Besides carring moleskin and using deorant on your feet, carry a second set of footwear, socks, liners, etc, and stow them in a locker. If your shoes and socks get wear, change to the dry pair. All shoes and socks lose all of their comfort and blister proctection once they are wet.

I also swer by Thorlo socks. Wear themevery day home and vacation.

Also bandaid brand blister banaids work so well if you do get a blister.

herc.
