So I was just on disneystore.com and saw this cute bird feeder. I clicked on it, because I was curious if they had a matching bird bath, and this came up -

"CA Residents: Proposition 65 WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm."

Crazy! I love Disney, and want to believe that wouldn't put harmful chemicals in their products.... This makes me so dissapointed in Disney. And its a bird feeder - Who knows what these chemicals could be doing to the birds and squirrles that are feeding off of it.

There are tags on a lot of things like that, including Vera Bradley handbags!

The California labeling rules are so much stricter than the rest of the country/world, that they end up needing to label pretty much everything. I lived in CA and you basically see those signs everywhere and just ignore it (which of course renders them completely meaningless and ineffective)
I wouldn't bat an eye at that warning.

It's also posted on the Disneyland Resort itself:

Everything in CA has this warning on it. (At least it seemed that way to us when we visited!)

That's the CA labeling system for you.

If it has anything that could potentially cause cancer they have to put a warning on it even if it isn't meant for human consumption.

Like everyone said, that label is everywhere here. Don't eat the bird feeder or your purse and I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

You can always look at the list of current substances that are covered under Prop 65 here

It's 23 pages long and while a lot of it is chemicals there are some things like wood dust, chinese style salted fish, estrogen and aspirin.

Yep. That's CA. Everything has that warning. I'm not saying it isn't true that the item or place may have hazardous things in them, but it's pretty much unavoidable.

Many of the products you currently are using probably have carcinogens or endocrine disruptors. Doesn't mean you shouldn't avoid those products (i.e. don't just ignore it because other do). You should at the very least minimize those products. Be grateful that Disney gives that notice as Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo does not!

That's CA for ya. They are well known to having warnings and requirements on products far and above any other state. Almost to the point of being a pain in the behind.

We spent time in California in June and found out that riding the elevators causes cancer. My 12 year old niece was concerned until her Dad told her its only in California that elevator riding causes cancer. :rotfl2:
