knowing how many disney design pressed pennys there im very supprised there is not any chatter about them it seems to only be pins here:confused3

You know I've wondered the same thing myself. I thought perhaps I've just missed seeing anything but I still haven't run into any penny posts! Are you a collector? My roomie has tons of the pressed pennies and quarters. It's always part of our vacation to run around trying to collect the best! ;)

i love pressing pennys, its a fantastic hobby. and not very expensive except if you get some off e bay

My daughter's age 11 and 6 LOVE penny press machines. We plan on taking those mini m&m tubes full of shiny new pennies and each daughter will get a 2 full rolls of quarters to use in the machines. They each have a penny press collection book that we purchased a few years ago when we were at Disney, even though DD6yr has more pennies from other places (Zoos, aquariums, art museum, etc). They both are already planning this years collections. They seem more excited about it than seeing the characters this year.

I've got a whole penny book filled, along with a few stray pennies. I think I may need to get a new book...but I agree, they're a neat souvenir and not expensive at all!

We LOVE Pressed Penny machines!!!!

Everywhere we go we ask if they have them.
We definately don't have all the Disney one but we're working on it LOL!
Not only are they an inexpensive item, but they make such a fun collection, they're small so they don't take up much room, and thye are so fun to look at and remember all the great experiences!
I bought some on ebay once, but for the most part we love to get them ourselves, so that just wasn't fun for us.

The pressing pennies is so much fun! My roomie has two books of pennies. There is a list somewhere on the Disboards about all the different pennies you can find thoughout the parks. I never realized how many different one there were til I was staring at her MUST have list last year! LOL :goodvibes

What's everyones favorite? I'll have to go look at ours tonight so I can pick one and post it here tomorrow! :upsidedow

We have a hugh collection.

here is a great list ( not all but many) from Allears

My only other tipa are .

If flying with the quarters take them out of the rolls and keep them loose in your carry-on ( ziplock baggie works great) so they won't look like an explosive devise in the x-ray.

And get your self a M&M minis large tube, Put 2 quarters and a penny and repeat this will make you time at the machines go much quicker then searching for the change.

Hey, just found this thread. Our DD8 started her penny collection in Jan and I don't think she missed a machine in MK or Epcot. We now have 2 books. Will check out those links shortly. Keep up the updates, I will try to post some pics later.

Pressed coins are fun! I like to check out the machines everytime we go. They will change the designs from time to time. I have a smallish collection, but they are the ones I wanted, I don't always like all the designs. I love the Walt Disney Signature one from the Walt Disney Story building in Town Square at Disneyland. That is a very cool one! I like Belle and the Mickey ones, and oh, my favorite character on pennies is Goofy, but I also collect other Disney memorabilia of Goofy. Pressing them is fun. I always search out the machines! I even pressed a few at the Santa Cruz Pier on our last trip to California! Fun! It is fun to see other places that have them as well like the Boardwalks and Pier at Santa Cruz. They had the cutest little sea otter one! Awwwwww... I love sea otters!:goodvibes
I have one of the cases they sell and it is not full, but like I said I only collect the ones I really, really like!:goodvibes

Hi! My DS really liked the pressed pennies last time, and he was only 20 months old! Now we have a collection of state quarters too, and he'll be 4 yrs old for our trip in the fall, so I'm sure they'll be an even bigger hit. (Plus DS #2 will be almost 2)

I just found out from my Mom that they have albums to store the pressed pennies in.
Can anyone tell me
* where to buy them?
* how much they cost?
* how are they set up? (are the slots labeled for specific coins, or are they blank?)

Thanks so much! :)

My DD11 started collecting when she was 6. Her collection isn't massive but she's done well. We love finding the different penny machines scattered about to complete sets. We still need to get to The Grand Floridian I believe to complete the Lady and the Tramp set.

One great activity we had one visit was collect a penny from each country in EPCOT. We had fun searching each area just trying to find the penny machines. It was a great way for us to explore The World Showcase.

We got our book at the resort gift shop. It has been several years ago so I can't remember how much it was. It is a trifold little book with slots that are clear plastic for the pennies, then one page has bigger slots for the quarters that you might press.

I am thinking about collecting pressed pennies when I take my first trip to WDW. I thought at one time I read that you should use pennies from a certain year or before a certain year so you don't get silver streaks when you press them. Did I imagine this or is it true? If it is true what year is it?

Also what works to get the pennies good and shiny before you go?

Thanks!!

That is a very helpful site. Thanks, I am looking forward to collecting pennies.

Cool topic. Being a kid at heart, I thought pin trading would be cool when we started planning our trip a few months ago. I'm notorious for picking up new expensive hobbies. :)

DW nipped that in the bud. :lmao:

Last week I did see a post in the Theme Park board about EC / pressed pennies. Way cool. I have all my pre -81 pennies cleaned and shined. I found that plain old ketchup with a tablespoon or two of vinegar added works great.

I also have the latest WDW listing in hand so I'll be pressing next week. I'll be using these in scrapbooks that DW will be starting after our trip.
