Pressed Pennies?

I noticed the thread regarding pressed pennies. I have asked for the list to be sent to me (Thank You for the offer). Sounds like something my girls would like but given that this is our first trip, I am not really sure what it is. What are pressed pennies? How much does it cost to have a penny pressed?

It costs 51 cents for a pressed penny. You put 2 quarters and a penny in the machine. The penny goes through the machine & has an image pressed into it, so now the penny is flat & elongated.

We like to use a tip I read on the DIS to take a mini M&M tube and stack quarter, quarter, penny so that they are ready.

Some people prefer to use shiny new pennies, others prefer older pennies (I think its pre-1982 but its been awhile since I saved them) that are all copper, and clean them.

We enjoyed penny collecting. There are also quarter machines that take 4 quarters plus the one being pressed.

They also provide the pressed penny list at the information desk at Magic Kingdom. Just got back and my kids loved hunting the pressed pennies machines out and collecting them.

Unless they've updated the lists recently, the ones they hand out at wdw actually have older information.

Good to know. I didn't get one since I already had one, but we rarely used it since the kids were great at spotting them!
