What exactly are these? I keep hearing alot about them but I really dont know what they are? Can someone show me some pics of them or something?
Thanks
Lora

Pressed pennies are pennnies that get imprinted with the design of a character. There are machines at the hotels and parks. You put in two quarters and one penny, choose the design you want-there are three choices on each machine (we have characters from the Jungle Book), push your money into the machine and watch the rollers press you penny in between them. They sell books to hold your pennies too.

Just imagine a penny after it gets run over by a train. Then add a Disney themed pattern to it.

There are these evil machines in which you put 2 Quarters and 1 Penny into then you choose your design that you want and crank....crank...crank the handle until a flat penny comes out with a design on it. :)
My daughter has many of them, they are every where you go truck stops, theme parks, niagara falls,etc..........................

Look what Yahoo came up with. My niece has a whole album full of pressed pennies.

My dds 3 and 6 had so much fun collecting these around the parks and putting them in the disney books. It was like a treasure hunt each time we went somewhere to see what characters could be collected.

Does Disney sell their own collector books to put the pennies in? If so, does anyone know how I could buy one of these before going?

Since my 10 yr old son has been a really wee one, we have collected pressed pennies and quarters from various places we have been ... from Yellowstone to WDW to Fisherman's Wharf ... wherever we are. He has a special "pressed coin bank" to collect them, but we did do the special book for the 50th Celebration when we were at DL this past summer. It is a fun way to collect "places" at a fairly minimal cost. .51

Yes Disney has their own books to put them in. Hubby and I filled 2 on our last trip they hold 36 pennies and 6 quarters too. I'm not sure you could get one before going......

All Ears Net has a list of every pressed penny location at WDW. I never knew how many there were until I printed the list for my niece for our last trip.

we like to do this too! my ds (4) had a blast with this. someone on this board told me about the mini m&m containers to store your change in so when you come upon one of the machines you are all set. and that tip worked very well for us. you put 2 quarters and a penny, over and over until you have filled your tube. it's fun to see them being pressed! :teeth:

My DS5 loves collecting the pressed pennies. We bought a book this year, they are not that expensive. $5 or $6 I think. We thought it would be an inexpensive way to get him out of the gift shops. When you look back on it, it does get kind of expensive, but it's still pretty neat, because they have different ones for different places. For instance we got one from each resort we had dinner at, one from each country in Epcot, one from the bigger rides we did, like Splash Mtn and Test Track.

Sure you can just call shop at WDW

407-3636200 and tell them you want a pressed penny book.

This works awesome! There is no fumbling around for the correct change when you are standing at the machine. I collect the pennies from everywhere I go. I do have a pressed penny book from WDW but I think I need to invest in about 3 more!

Lora,

Pressed Pennies are a very fun treasure hunting kind of thing. The machines are everywhere. They usually need two quarters and a penny. If you decide to do this (your 9 year old will like it), let your children carry a small supply of the coins. I didn't read all of the posts-but there is a site that tells you what machines have what and where they are. Disney sells a small plastic case that fits like 80? pressed pennies.

Also, I noticed you have a Padawan too! There is a thread going about this new Jedi Training Academy that takes place in front of the Star Tours ride. Apparently this was something done during Star Wars weekend, but now it is available daily. I can't link threads-so I'm sorry-but type a search for Jedi and it should come up.

Good luck with your trip. Planning is the best part-well maybe not the best ;)

I found that out on this board. I personally haven't tried it, but all the infomation I've gotten here so far has been great. I'm in the process right now of saving all my old pennies and cleaning them with CameO copper and brass cleaner. Take an old toothbrush, little bit of water and CameO and make a paste. The pennies are literally brand new shinny in seconds. I found an 1916 penny and cleaned it with CameO and it looks like a 2006 penny! I also finally found mini M&M tubes after weeks of searching and will be filling them with pennies and quarters. Oh,the lengths we will go to make our Disney Trip perfect!! Only 20 more days untill our first trip to Disney World!!!! :cool1: :Pinkbounc
