Sunday, February 29th. The players: me (femme, 40 years old), dh, dd age 3.
We are there for the Disneyland park opening at 8am. The weather report is for rain, but it's quite pleasant. In fact, as we wait in line for the park to open, there is a spectacular rainbow arching into Disneyland. I'd swear it was created by the Imagineers.
We get in and start the trek toward Fantasyland. We pass Main Street and the Walt Disney statue. Suddenly it begins to rain! In the course of about 30 seconds it begins to HAIL!!! We run -- everyone runs -- to the castle! "To the castle!" "Sanctuary!" The castle was the nearest shelter. It also suddenly turns very cold. We duck into a shop to warm up. We didn't bring an umbrella and we are soaked. The stoller is also soaked. It is over as quickly as it began.
DD has decided she doesn't want to go on Peter Pan's ride, even though there is no line at all and she enjoyed it last time. We go on the carousel instead, which is at least covered. My best friend, Daniel, and his gf, Gerri, show up and dh goes on the Peter Pan with them. I go with Daniel and Gerri to Toon Town to get fp's for Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin. Turns out Toon Town is not open until 9am. So we head over to Space Mountain for fast passes. We coordinate by cell phone to meet dh and dd at the gates of Toon Town to head immediately to Roger Rabbit. That all works out great and we are in the first batch to get on. Now, dd has been cramming, watching Roger Rabbit for a month, in preparation for this ride. She almost chickens out, but we convince her to ride. I think the ride is fairly disjointed and ridiculous, but dd loves it!
Due to the 30 second hail storm, these rides are down: Dumbo, Teacups, and Alice in Wonderland. We are told that the Alice ride is down until the tracks dry. We head to Minnie's house, even though Minnie is not standing out front. Guess what? Minnie is sitting just inside! DD, who is dressed as Ariel today, summons up her courage and brings her autograph book to Miinnie and even poses for a pic without mom!
Then we go to Mickey Mouse's house and the same thing happens! No line and total access to Mickey!
We run through Chip n Dale's treehouse, then try to get onto Donald Duck's boat. DD quickly turns around when she sees that Goofy is making an appearance in DD's boat! Goofy is her absolute favorite, so it's actually much more intense emotionally to see him. Therefore, we have to turn away. It's kind of hard to explain.
I discover that dd's feet are soaked from the earlier rain. We go buy Minnie Mouse socks at the princess store. A bit later we also buy a gold Minnie ears hat for dd, and we get her name embroidered on the back. They make them into Minnie hats by sewing on a little flower and bow.
We leave Toon Town and I go on Small World with dd while dh goes on Space Mountain (note earlier fast passes). We try to go by the wishing well near the castle, but Snow White is appearing there and dd is too scared to approach. We just want to make a wish in the wishing well! Instead we watch the Sword in the Stone ceremony. Meanwhile, dh is on Indiana Jones with Daniel and Gerri. They got fast passes for that, too. I don't like any of those fast pass rides, so it works out for me.
We adults finally connect and I go on PoTC with Daniel and Gerri while dh takes dd on the Mark Twain. We get stuck in the first part of PoTC -- the Blue Bayou part. Daniel and I are preoccupied with what parts of the ride might be renovated. We reconnect with dh who tells us that the Mark Twain apparently has no bathroom. Did I mention that we're trying to potty train dd in the middle of all this?
We leave Disneyland for lunch since we can't get into Blue Bayou. We go to Katal's in Downtown Disney and order compressed salad, meza platter, chicken ravioli, and the olive appetizer. Very yummy!
We return to our hotel room for dd's nap and to meet up with my sister, who lives in Orange County.
Fireworks again Sunday night! Although we were nervous all day, there was no more rain following the freak hail storm.
