I'm stumped about what to get my MIL and FIL. They are retired and living comfortably. They don't really need any more stuff. I was thinking about gift certificates for dining. But I don't really know the special places they like to go. I know they go to their country club every so often, plus they play golf and don't need any golf supplies/merchandise.

Any suggestions?

For those that "have everything," I like to give an "experience," like tickets to a special show. If you live close by and can make it a family event, or a special time with grandchildren, all the better.

We got them annual passes to the new Georgia Aquarium here.

The girls also make Grandpa and my dad "Poppy" (yeah, I didn't get naming rights on him, my brother's daughter did-I wanted Grandaddy) sweatshirts incorporating their handprints and a Christmas theme on it and the year.

They both seem to get a huge kick out of them and wear them all the time around this time of year.

I'm in the same boat as you.

Not only are my in-laws retired, they all have money so it's not like I can "help" them in that way (gift certificates). They all also live out in the "boondocks" so to buy them theater tickets is nothing but a hassle for them since they are about 3 hours away from any venue.

We draw names for my DH's family. I got FIL (again). He wants a tool--have no idea what it does, but he gave me the name of it. DH got his sister. DH and I "swapped" names (recipients kn and have no problem with it) so DH is getting the tool for his dad, and I'm ordering a gift basket for SIL from Hale Groves. She lives in Buffalo and LOVES fresh citrus, and doesn't really want/need anything I (or anyone else) can give her.

In the past we've given the inlaws a GC to a nice restaurant that they wouldn't spend the money on normally, and tickets to a show in NYC.

My mom is another one with no "wants" or "needs". I always send her a gift basket--usually Godiva, as it's things she really enjoys but would NEVER buy for herself.

We are in the same boat. Have no idea what to buy them. Plus if they don't like what you buy they let you know as soon as they open it.

We gave a gift certificate to a local nursery to help them in the spring when they do their gardening. Bedding plants are so expensive!!!

My inlaws live in Florida and always love to play cards and when they did live up here they used to go to Atlantic City alot. So for Christmas we bought them about 50 different scratch off lottery tickets. They love these and have a blast seeing if they won anything.

My parents meet the description of your in-laws. They buy whatever they want, are retired in FL, and don't really need more "stuff". When I checked the boards tonight, one of the threads mentioned a Black and Decker Storm Station. I was already making them a basket with some other small things, I just couldn't decide on a big item. The Storm Station should be perfect for FL. As a matter of fact, I'd like to have one myself!

I like the gift certificate idea. I have an aunt who also needs nothing for holiday occasions. She asks for "consumables" items like shower gels, candles, etc. or gift certificates for manicures, etc.
