I just got a last minute invite to my 2nd cousins house for Christmas Eve (through my mom) for dinner. I need to get a gift for their 8 year old son. I have no idea what he is in to. Any sure fire gifts for an 8 year old boy? Any help appreciated. I live very close to a KMart and can drive to a Target, Walmart or Borders if needed.

Thanks!

Bakugan seems to be a hit with every boy that age, and they should have it all all 3 of those stores, UNLESS they are sold out.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I am told he likes to read... What type of books are appropriate for an 8 year old boy?

How about a gift card for a bookstore. My daughter is 9, reads like crazy and members of the family are giving her some gift cards. It is hard to know what she has or does not have. Kids seem to love to do their own shopping, or at least mine. They love the gift cards.

I have two boys ages 4 and 7. When in doubt I always go with Transformers. Action Figure plus vehicle in one toy. You can't go wrong!:thumbsup2 Pretty decently priced and the smaller ones are easy to transform.

My son loved Captain Underpants at that age.

Boys that age can never have too many cool flashlights.

Legos

Diary of a Wimpy Kid book

Or a book gift card so he can go pick what he likes

Books are VERY hard to buy for that age if you do not know the child. You can never really know what he has already read/owns or what his reading level is (one of mine was reading Magic Tree house at 8 the other was reading those at 4 and well beyond them by 8--I work at a library and see such broad ranges all the time).

Best bets:
Klutz books (they have these at Target in the "nicer" toy aisle and in most book stores and high end toy stores. It includes some reading with lots of play. I think the build your own marshmellow launcher, castle puzzle book, or the lego contraptions, would be ideal for an 8 year old boy.

oh GOOD I bought this for DS after reading all the great reviews online - plus for $16 it looks like a nicer gift.

I would get him a gift card to one of those stores. Leggos and books are great IF he likes them.

I must have an odd 8 year old. I tried to show him the Bakugan and he didn't know what they were. He's never been into Star Wars, or fighting type toys. He however loves his cars and trucks, basically role playing, not so much with the smash 'em and crash 'em. He's also big into any sports stuff, baseball, football, etc. I've tried to get him into legos, he likes it, but not an extreme love for them.

All in all he's a tough kid to buy for.

If you havent done your shopping yet, gift cards work but for books the 8 year old boys that I know like the Guinness Book of World Records, Ripleys Beilieve It or Not, or these puzzle books were a big hit when we gave them as gifts

You just described my 11 year old! Anything sports but has no interest in Legos. Loves to read though, espeically if it is SPORTS RELATED:lmao:
