Pres. Day/M. Gras-compared to summer?

O.K. I'm still trying to decide when to go next. Mardi Gras or mid-December. Went in June last year and it was HORRIBLE. Way too many people and long lines for us. I've read some posts on here about how terrible Mardi Gras week will be next year because of Pres. Day, but it just can't compare to summer crowds, right? Please tell me it is no where near what summer crowds are! I don't really want to go in Dec because it's just hard with xmas and school, etc.

Come on experts, I need advice!!

Well I am no expert but have been to WDW 3 times now during MG week but all three times MG week was either before or after Pres. Week. I have never gone in Pres. Week itself. I was there this year during MG week and it was fun, no great jump in crowds, very manageable. Personally I won't go during Pres. Week, Xmas week, Easter (did a day trip once during Easter, can you say "MOB SCENE") and I'm not sure I'd go in the summer due to heat.

Are you trying to work around school vacations? Does your school have any 4 day weekends that you could add a few days to so the kiddies don't miss a full week? We are lucky our mid-winter break in usually the week following Pres. Week. But I did the MLK long weekend and tacked on a few days once, worked pretty good but we were lucky with weather. January can be more iffy than Feb.

we went the thursday , friday, saturday and sunday preceding Presidents day. Thursday and Friday were OK but Saturday and Sunday were as packed as I have ever seen.

Well, if we left on Mardi Gras Day which is Tuesday, the 20th (I believe) and came back on Sunday, do you think the crowds would have slowed down some? Would this be a better plan than going the weekend BEFORE President's day?

spalma I thought I would let you know what info I found out through these boards about Presidents Week. As you can see from my information I live only about an hour from you. I had a trip planned last year for Mardi Gras (had to cancel thanks to Katrina). We were going to reschedule for next Mardi Gras but changed our mind since it fell the same week as President's Day (week). What I have learned is that the people who do get that week off it is Presidents Day and the week following. So your question about going the week before President's Day the crowds should be much better. President's Day(week) falling the same as Mardi Gras week should be pure . People have told me that the weekend before is when the crowds start showing up. I hope this helps.
