Prepaid phones

I need to purchase a prepaid phone in the next week for our trip. Does anyone know of a good deal? I would like Nationwide and mobile to mobile.

Mobile-to-mobile is not normally offered on prepaid phones. Virgin offers it if you go with their contract option, but that defeats the purpose of buying a prepaid.

You can usually choose from two basic styles of billing on prepaids: per-minute charging or bloc charging that includes a per-day charge as well. The second option is for those who use their phones every single day, and often. If you can go days never using it, then per-minute is the better choice.

DH & I have been using Virgin's per-minute plan for close on 10 years now. We've mostly been happy with it, though I'm not crazy about the phone that I have at the moment (it loses power if I carry it in my pocket, and the address book has too strict a character limit.) Virgin's weakness has always been the phones -- be careful that you get a better-known brand if you go with them.

I have T-Mobile, I can't remember if it has free mobile-to-mobile or not, I'd have to look. But it's 10 cents a minute (10 cents per text if you're into texting) and no roaming or long distance charges, it's just 10 cents no matter what. I've never had a problem with the signal and the one time I had to call customer service they were very helpful. If you can afford to put $100 on it at once the minutes won't expire for a year, and will roll over for another year as long as you add more minutes before they expire. $100 lasts me about a year, so it works out just perfectly. I wind up spending less than $10 a month for my cell! If you can't afford the $100, then you can do smaller amounts and it's good for three months, again unused minutes roll over as long as you add more minutes before they expire they'll roll over to your new expiration date.
