I have a pre-paid Mastercard from Western Union. I don't have any credit cards other than that. I think the cost to sign up now might be $9.95 and I'm not sure if there is any other one-time fee. It charges you $3.95 each time you load it, so you might want to put a good amount on there whenever you need to do that. Also, there's a $4.95 a month charge for it. But, my justification for that was that some banks charge anyway for an ATM card and some credit cards have annual fees, so if you break it down, it is about the same. The good thing is that you never pay interest, obviously, and you don't have to pay a balance off on it like an American Express card or whatever. And as far as saying that it's crazy to pay $5 bucks a month do the math on the American Express card and other cards with an annual fee that runs $60 a year. Wow! It's the same. Doh!
I don't know where you live, but we have Western Union thingy's in Kroger and I think Publix may have them, but I'm not sure.
If you need info on it, I can post more of what I know. BTW, you have to get the gray form to fill out when you first get one (and whenever you load it). The people at the local Western Union didn't have a clue what I was talking about or the procedure to get the card. Just get the gray form (there are only 3 forms at locations) and then call their 800 # with that form in hand. I had to call back after the first time and even after loading my card to get it sent to me. I had put the money on the card but they didn't send it right out because I was supposed to call back again. Anyway, maybe the people at your local office will help you more because when I got mine it was brand new. But stay on Western Union through their 800 # because the card is supposed to be at your home in about 7 days. The procedure may be smoother now, but once you get the card you won't have to go through any junk like that again. I think you can sign up on Western Union's site, or at least get the number there. Again, you might research online and find a card that suits you better, too.
Also, a Disney gift card sounds cool, but with this you can use it if you get groceries or gas or whatever.
Thre are a few intricacies about using it, like gas stations do pre-approvals that can mess up the available balance for a few days if you're close to running out of cash on it. So, you have to pre-pay for the gas (inside, not at the pump) or just tell them you're filling up and then use the card like it's cash. But, that's one of the few instances that you have to know how to use it. If you have a good balance on there then that won't even be an issue and you can pay at the pump or whatever. I just keep mine right above broke if you know what I mean.
Let me know if you want more info on that, but again, my experience has been good.
