It has been a number of years since I have been to WDW. I seem to remember that if you stay in a WDW resort, you received a parking permit for all areas (MK, EPCOT, etc.) Is that still true? I wonder if you pay for premium parking, it would also be for all areas?

Now I know why they did away with AAA parking.

Maybe hotel guests could pay extra for the benefit? Again so much depends on where all of the regular parking will be. We like to arrive at rope drop and I wouldn't be thrilled to be directed to the outlying parking lots at MK.

If it comes to pass my guess is resort guests get free general parking but have to pay the upcharge for premium parking. If not Disney is losing money and I think they really want onsite guests to ride the buses anyway.

I think we will see the front lots being held back for premium, and the general parking will be further back. The only lots that will allow general parking in close lots will be handicapped.

Walt Disney World News Today is reporting that a test run for premium parking will start on March 15 for Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

This article says the test is running just for a few days, but the official word is that it will continue based on guest interest - no end date

Any guest who receives free parking (AP, CM, resort, etc) will have the option to upgrade for $15, otherwise they will continue to have free access to the rest of the lots

Handicapp parking can be further back but placed near the trams. The argument is they only have to walk 20 feet to get on the tram that will take them to the front gate.

'But what if they are in a chair or scooter and can't use the tram?' Evil Disney exec says: 'they are not walking anyway. So what's the problem?'

Those trams are very hard to get up into for some people with physical issues. My mom has knee problems and barely made it up the last time we tried (6 years ago). At the time we did not know about the handicap lot.

It does not affect us since we are not rope droppers and always park at the back anyways. It just seems greedy like go build something amazing before you try to squeeze every dollar out of me.

they used to have a deal with AAA and i bet that is the area they are now using for preferred parking. as was stated before universal studios and sea world/busch gardens have been offering this for a long time now heck Universal charges for fast passes unless you stay in their top tiered hotels at least disney didn't do that

The direction Disney is heading really upsets me. We love to go there because it is different than other parks. Now it seems like they are trying to be more like other places.
We already pay a premium for tickets and resorts. Now the rumor is they want to add resort fees? And the option of premium parking for an additional cost? I am guessing they will either quit running trams or reduce the number of trams if this "test" run proves to generate extra income.
They will soon lose my loyalty as they become more like other theme parks.

I'm pretty bummed about this. We are AP's and we mostly come in the evenings. We almost always get a spot in the front lot so we don't have to fold our stroller to get on the tram. We're planning on going Friday evening. I'm quite interested to see how this pans out. Parking further away would absolutely deter us from visiting as frequently. We never ever take the tram because it's such a pain to unload the stroller to fold it.

If you read the Sentinel article it says they are using the Jafar section for Preferred. A section that much has been used for Handicapped overflow. The Aladdin section is still "front row" and closer than Jafar if you get that one. I wonder now what happens to the Handicapped overflow ....

I'm actually more bothered by Epcot's plan to use Amaze for Preferred. That is where the Handicapped parking is and due to the nature of the park and the very high volume of handicapped parking needed ... they will impact handicapped parking.

You make sense. I think what you'll see at that time is signs directing people to the Premium area and then that area guarded where you have to show your receipt. It would be a waste of money to police any of the other areas.

Using the term "Auto Preferred" leaves them room to add "Auto Premium" later on. Good, Better, Best pricing.
