Premier Passport Upgrade from DVC AP?

I have a question for DVC members who have upgraded their DVC discounted WDW AP to the Premier Passport.

We already have the discounted WDW DVC AP (the regular one, not the premium one). We are going to DLR next May, and we are trying to decide if upgrading our WDW discounted AP to the Premier Passport would be our best financial option over buying two DLR park hoppers.

Have any of you upgraded your DVC AP to the premier? What was the cost to upgrade? Did you get credited the amount you paid (with the $100 discount) or the cost of the "actual" AP to non-DVC members?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I am just now thinking about it. Thanks for any help you can offer!

The DVC Annual Pass is a unique ticket with it's own price. It's not just a discounted AP.

If you upgrade from a DVC AP to the new Premier Passport they will credit you the retail price of the DVC AP.

From what I've read, the new premier pass may only be a good deal if you have the premium (i.e water parks, disney quest..) pass at both parks. If you have a normal WDW AP, then a separate DL AP may be a better deal.
And as an added bonus, your DL AP would have a later expiration than your current WDW pass. It may be cheaper to allow a few months lapse between passes if you do not travel to each frequently enough, i.e 6 months WDW only, 6 months WDW+DL, 6 months DL, 6 months WDW only...)

Thanks for the info both of you! The DLR AP might work out cheaper than hoppers (for as long as we'll be there) but, we'd need the non-blackout one because one of our days is blocked. We will keep investigating, but I appreciate the feedback.

Not really. Regular WDW AP $531.44 + Deluxe DL AP $329 = $860.44. Premier Passport (equivalent to the higher level Premium AP for both coasts) costs $722.75.

Even if you have the $100 DVC discount on the WDW AP, it's still cheaper to get the Premier.

In fact, it's also cheaper to buy a Premier Passport than a regular (non-DVC) WDW AP + a 3 day DL Hopper ($737.44 total).

And this is not even taking into account the much superior discounts you get with a Premier Passport at Disneyland.

Now, the expiration date thing is a consideration. I agree that if your trips are widely spaced apart, it might make more sense to have separate passes on each coast.

We have a premium ap for WDW that expires in December 2010, but we are going to Disneyland in October and November 2010 and then WDW in Sept of 2011. when we go in Oct can I just buy the Premier pass and have it start in Oct so it will be good for all three trips?

Keep in mind that on the day that you BUY an AP (at least at DLR), you are not blocked out regardless of the pass! We always arrange to buy our passes at the gate on a block-out day and enjoy that one extra day to the max.

Does that include the day you upgrade a park hopper? We could get a hopper and then upgrade it the day that the AP would be blacked out. Thanks!!!
