Hi!
I am going to Disneyland next month and am trying to decide if I should get a Premier Passport so any advice would be much appreciated!
I currently have a DVC WDW annual pass (exp. Dec. '12) that I bought before the Aug. price increase so I paid $389 plus $25 tax. The DVC WDW AP now is about $431 plus tax. How much credit will they give me towards the purchase of the Premier Passport? Will there be tax on top of that?
Also, I was going to buy a 6 day Disneyland parkhopper online ($216 - cheaper than gate price) in case I didn't wind up getting the Premier pass and then upgrade while at Disneyland if I do decide to. But I think I remember reading somewhere that they won't accept two tickets (in this case my WDW AP and the Disneyland 6 day parkhopper) in the upgrade to Premier. Is this correct?
We don't usually buy merchandise or eat at the restaurants much so a really in-depth list of all the discounts that are included with the Premier Passport would be a huge help too.
Thanks so much!

My hubby did this last week, although on the opposite coast(he had a premium Disneyland pass and upgraded to the premier at WDW). He ran into one issue that I think could happen to you at DL as well - for some reason, they only have the correct "equipment" at certain places in the park, so my DH had to actually go IN to the park (we were at Epcot) to do the upgrade. He didn't have a ticket to get in, so he had to buy a one-day ticket, use it to get in, and then go to Guest Relations to upgrade. So, he had the DL premium pass + the one-day Epcot ticket. They took everything and applied it all to the the cost of the premier pass, so he just paid the difference.

When I renewed my premier pass at DL, I also had to go IN to the park to renew it, which is why I'm thinking you might have to go in to upgrade as well.

They do charge tax on it, so if the tax rate is still 8.75%, it will be $761.25 total, minus your WDW annual pass, minus any DL tickets you may have. I'm pretty sure they credited DH the current price for his DL annual pass instead of the price it was when he purchased it, but I could be wrong about that.

As for whether it's worth it - depends on if you'll go back to DL after your trip next month, but before your pass expires. If you look at the total cost of the pass minus your WDW AP, it's still going to cost more to upgrade than to buy the 6-day DL tickets for this trip, so that may not be worth it. But, if you plan on going back to DL for a couple more days sometime before the pass expires, it could definitely save you money.

My DH and I both decided to get the premier pass for this year since we had enough trips to both DL and WDW planned to make sense, but after it expires (for me in April 2012), I'm not going to renew the premier, and will just get the DL premium pass since we're not planning on going to WDW again for a few years.

Hope that helps a bit and hope you have a great trip!

When you are upgrading to Premier at the other park than where your AP is from, you have to go to Guest Relations at either Magic Kingdom or Disneyland, they are the only ones that can process those. Ticket booths cant do it.

Another tidbit, if you upgrade in FL, you will pay tax, if you wait till you are in CA or upgrade in CA before you go to FL, no tax for theme park tickets in CA.

You either will upgrade to the premier from the $389 you paid or the amount of the 6day PH you buy($216), not a combination. So 700-389 = 311. Of the 311 you are going to spend 216 for a PH. 311-216= $95. $95 is 15% of about $633.

Since you are DVC you already get some discounts. It will be tough to make it worthwhile unless you enjoy the dining discount to make up for it. Is $633 possible for your dining costs?

Consider just getting one Premier Pass to get the dining discounts.

Is this just for California residents, perhaps? I was at Disneyland in April and renewed my premier pass as well as bought a couple day parkhopper pass and paid tax on both of them...

I have read somewhere that the price is $722.xx (FL tax) at either place when you buy/upgrade to the Premier. That is the price I am expecting to pay in CA if we upgrade to Premier this year.

You are correct disneydenisel, when you buy, upgrade, or renew the Premier pass you will have to pay the Florida tax.

I stand corrected...anyhoo, that is what the FL cast member told me when I upgraded, guess he was misinformed.

OP, you'll upgrade from the *price you paid* for the DVC AP.

Because of the DVC discount and the actual plans we could have made for DLR this year, I just can't get the Premier to make sense yet. I've tried every which way, too!

I assume that he was at the International Gateway at Epcot because the entrances to all the other parks have a Guest Relations window outside the park with the proper equipment. But I am glad that they were able to handle his upgrade by allowing him to purchase a ticket and credit the cost to the upgrade. I was told last December that this would not be possible and I should go to a different park or find a way to the front of Epcot from my Epcot Area resort. Glad to see they are starting to work with guests on this. -- Suzanne
