We are going to Disney World in 26 days and I just discovered that I am pregnant! I will be about 9 weeks along during our trip.I've been reading and Disney advises against riding these rides:

  • Splash mountain*
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad*
  • Space Mountain*
  • The Barnstormer
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train*
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Test Track*
  • Mission Space*
  • Sum of All thrills
  • Tower of Terror*
  • Rock 'n Roller Coaster*
  • Star Tours*
  • Kilimanjaro Safari*
  • Dinosaur
  • Expedition Everest*
  • Primeval whirl
  • Kali River Rapids*

Does this seem right even if I'm not that far along or are any of these still okay to ride? Rides with stars we have FP+ for and I'd really hate to give them up.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I would discuss it with your doctor. Some of these rides are milder than others, but I wouldn't want to risk it.

Hopefully you won't get morning sickness, but if you do you might not want to go on those rides anyway... good luck!

You will have to consult your doctor. Some women are told that at that early they can do anything they want where others are told to refrain from the roller coasters and sit further up on the Safari.

Congratulations! Yes, talk with your doctor, get their advice.
I have a history of miscarriages, but with that said, from my experience and you being that early on in the pregnancy, a lot of those rides don't pose as big a risk as others. In all honestly, there is really very little YOU can do in the first few weeks that can cause a miscarriage. Very early loss is most commonly a genetic problem with the baby or with you. Not much that can be prevented.

Take with a grain of salt and ask your doc, but if I was in your shoes here is what I would still ride from your list:
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad* (in the front)
  • The Barnstormer (in the front)
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train* (in the front)
  • Star Tours*
  • Kilimanjaro Safari*
  • Dinosaur
  • ?Kali River Rapids*? - I'm hesitant on this one, only because I've only ridden it once, so I don't remember it well enough to give feedback either way.
IMHO, those rides are equivalent to riding a boat in choppy water, or going over speed bumps and rough terrain in a golf cart, both of which I've done in my first trimester. If you're feeling unsure though, err on the side of caution and don't do it. I hope you are feeling well enough to not be sick and have energy when you go! Though I've found the more I have to do, the less sick I feel than when I sit around all day in the first trimester. I hope that holds true for you too!

Plus you can take this opportunity to maybe take part in some rides/entertainment you may not normally do in the parks.

Drink lost of water, take nap breaks (shady benches are wonderful for a quick 10 min nap), and have fun!

The ONLY person you should be talking to about this is your doctor. He/she knows your history and can look at Youtube videos of the attractions and advise you.

Agreed that you should talk to your doctor about attractions. The only one off of that list that I would feel safe riding pregnant would be the safari. I wouldn't go near the others. Just not worth the risk - but I'm very risk averse.

At 9 weeks you are at prime time for morning sickness if you are going to get it. Bring some saltines and keep them by the bed so you can eat them when you wake up and hopefully ward it off :-)

Congratulations! I went to Disney last year when I was 7 months along and it was fabulous! All the advice I read (and was echoed by my Dr) was to use my discretion, but generally stay off of any ride that has a height restriction.

I stayed off of everything on the list you posted with the exception of the Kilimanjaro Safari because I live in the Boston area and our highways are bumpier than that ;)

I live next to Disney and with all of my pregnancies my dr said from the very beginning "do not ride anything you can not take a newborn baby on"
A lot of those are very bumpy (especially the safari). Like pp said...talk to your dr. You can still have a great trip, congratulations!

Congrats!

I'm leaving in a little over a week and I will be 14 weeks pregnant. I'll be staying away from all of them except the Safari (I'd also probably ride rapids but I hate getting wet when not in a water park). I had a MC earlier this year and for me, no ride is worth going through that again. I'll be at WDW again, so even though I'm dying to try 7DMT, it's just not worth it to me.

I'd purchase some B6 & Unisom to bring with you in case you have morning sickness trouble- your doc or pharmacist can tell you the proper dosage. This pregnancy has been mild but my first pregnancy I was SICK every day from 2pm until I woke up the next morning. It was awful! I din't leave my house after 1pm the entire 1st trimester. Thankfully every pregnancy is different.

I agree with the newborn baby advice. That said, of all those rides you list, the only one I would take a newborn baby on is the safari. I also would totally go on Kali River Rapids while pregnant (but wouldn't take a newborn to get wet, ha!).

I was quite a bit farther along when I went (about 6-7 months) but the only ones on that list I rode were the Speedway and Safari. They were both fine. Honestly, a lot of the others probably would have been too, but since we go somewhat often it wasn't worth it.

You can talk to your Dr, but keep in mind that doctors are individual people with their own biases too. My first dr told me I could do absolutely whatever I felt up to doing in my pregnancy - I think he ascribed to the notion that if women used to ride horses and work in the fields while pregnant, a roller coaster wouldn't be any worse. My second dr told me I had no business going to WDW at all because "You could trip just getting off the bus or stepping into the Small World boat!" So your Dr's advice will probably have a lot more to do with their personal risk-comfort level than anything to do with your particular pregnancy. Ask 5 of them on teh same day, and you may well get 5 different answers.

In general, anything without a height requirement should be fine. And a few others, like Soarin'. Just trust your instincts.
