Pregnant and need to start stocking up :o)

Cloth Diapers Are Cheaper Than Disposable Diapers...I used cloth, and they have better ones now. Here is an article I found that I really liked:

As a general rule, it is almost always cheaper to reuse than to buy new every time. This is no different with cloth diapers. Most parents go through 6 to 8 thousand diapers per child, from birth to about age three. If we take an average of what those diapers cost, that equates to between 2000 and 3000 dollars per baby. Once those children are potty trained those diapers are gone. They can’t be re-used. So a significant chunk of our hard earned money has gone to buying what is essentially garbage. In comparison, enough cloth diapers to last for three years will usually cost between 3 to 8 hundred dollars. At a minimum that is about a 1200 dollar savings. But wait! Consider, too, that those cloth diapers may last for one or more successive children and your savings doubles and even triples. Of course, it is difficult to make any hard and fast statements in this regard because of the varying costs of diapers, electricity, water, and detergents. Yes, cloth diapers will usually mean an extra one to three loads of laundry a week, but if everyone were to weigh the extra costs of their electricity, water usage, and detergent, I think they would be pleasantly surprised. These costs are infinitesimal compared to the cost of expensive disposable diapers.

If I had a choice, I would have done a diaper service and cloth diapers, but since we are really rural, I washed my own. Not a big deal, though.

Congrats!!!
Register at Huggies, Pampers, Gerber, Enfamil, Johnson and Johnson and any other websites you can think of!! I had a baby in April and we still get lots of coupons.

I'm suprised-not a lot of 'Luvs' love here? lol. I LOVED them! Best diapers I ever used-I used them for my five kids and a foster sweetie. They are also among the cheapest disposables.

My kids reacted to whatever it is they use in Huggies-I mean different kids over several years, so I gave up on them. I just can't use stuff with scents in them-Luvs seem to be among the 'plainest' (I guess) diapers out there. I never stocked up on diapers before the births because what if that baby reacted to whatever I stocked up on?

I had tried cloth-just a bit when one of the babies was born. Although we didn't stay with them (dh was just not open to it, he felt pretty strongly about it) I can see how they'd save money-even if used part-time.

I like the idea someone had upthread about buying Walmart (or wherever) gift cards a bit at a time, to have for after baby comes-that seems like a painless way to prepare! Plus then you can make sure of what size the baby is and such.

Start talking to friends and family about what they use for their babies. We found out about the Target generic formula brand from a family member. I use the Target baby wipes and occasionally we used their brand of baby wash, shampoo, etc. We also got a Sam's membership and loved the member's mark diapers. The Dr.'s office may be able to sign you up for a lot of the free samples.

I am preggers with twins due at the end of Jan. I have been using the 20% off coupons that babies r us has been having to buy 1 or 2 things a week. I had gotten rid of everything as my almost 3yr old outgrew it. So starting over as well. I agree with registering at the different places, for the completion coupons.
