My daughter is 14 weeks pregnant and has been complaining of persistent pain in her left thigh for about 2 weeks now.

She had a large ovarian cyst on that side which caused a lot of pain in her first trimester but it has begun to shrink and doesn't hurt quite as much anymore.

She also has chronic spine problems due to years of gymnastics.

Has anyone had any experience with thigh pain in 1 leg during pregnancy?

I'm really worried because I've never heard of this symptom in pregnancy before.

Could it be a pinched sciatic nerve? I had that problem when I was pregnant. It hurt from my lower back down the back of my leg. I still have pain occasionally.

Have her call her OBGYN ASAP. Her doctor will know more than the people on the disboards since he has actually met and examined her!

Same here--that was my first thought. She should check with her doctor. I had this for about a month--my dr had just prescribed physical therapy to help and it finally went away the day before my appointment. I could barely walk.

I've read a lot about pain in the back of the thigh but hers aches in the front of her thigh. I've done alot of research and I did read about a pinched femoral nerve but it didn't seem to indicate that as a pregnancy problem.

i would have her get checked out by a chiropractor that will adjust pregnant women.. ( some wont) sounds like the pressure from her growing uterus is pinching a nerve somewhere..I have that along with hip issues and PSD ( my pelvis is out of alinement causing pressure and pain in my pelvic area.. my chiro is my godsend and has helped me tremendously. but thank god i am due in about 3-4 weeks!

Her OBGYN did a scan to rule out a blood clot and basically blowing her complaints off at this point.

I had sciatic pain that radiated down the front of my thigh, can't remember which leg though. But, it was in only one leg and started early in my pregnancy.

Definitely important to talk with her doctor about it.

maybe get a 2nd opinion. i hate docs that blow off your issues. is she taking pre-natal vitamins, maybe she's a little low on potassium of b-12. it may be muscular.
doesn't sound like sciatica, but man THAT hurts!!

At her last ultrasound the technician commented that her uterus is not centered and is toward the left. She had a c-section 2 years ago and I'm wondering if scar tissue could have pulled her uterus to that side pinching a nerve.

She has also seen her GP who said that problem is probably coming from her back. No reassurance there either. I am going take your suggestion and try and find a chiropractor that will treat pregnant woman next.

Then get a second, third, forth....... (whatever it takes) opinion until she gets results. If I were your DD I would change doctors! Her doctor isnt doing her any personal favors, she is PAYING him/her! Doctors work for the paitents, not the other way around.

Exactly! She knows her body and if it's bothering her, she should insist they try to figure out what it is. A friend of mine had a severe headache. The EMTs said it was a migraine. The ER said it was a migraine. He insisted the pain was not normal. He insisted they do more tests. He had a brain aneuryism. If he had let the doctors blow him off, he'd be dead and his wife and children wouldn't have a husband and father. It irritates me that some doctors blow off your symptoms.

That is somewhat reassuring. She has had problems with sciatica in the past and does have a pain in her back which seems to ebb and wane with the leg pain at times. It's good to hear that sciatica can cause pain in the front of the thigh.

Keep getting opinions until you get the diagnosis you think it is? An OB/GYN gets sued for sneezing funny. They aren't going to dismiss something that could possibly be a problem.

That is what my doctor called it. It actually became better late in the pregnancy as the weigh shifted, but...LOL, it was replaced by just plain old lower back pain.

Hope she feels better soon!

And btw, congrats on the new grandbaby-on-the-way!

This is what my husband keeps telling me. She's seen OB?GYN and her GP both of whom did not seem worried. He says we have to trust them. Plus...my daughter is a medical malpractice attorney!!!! She does defense work and defends DR's and hospitals.

But I am so frightened b/c I have a lot of baggage relating to thigh pain. My mother died of primary sarcoma in her thigh bone 10 years ago. She complained of thigh pain for 3 years to 5 different doctors. How can I trust her doctors because of this?

I can understand your fears, I think that is only natural. But, think of this. She actually has a condition that can cause this sort of pain (pregnancy). I would be worried if she didn't have any reason to be feeling pain.

Getting a second opinion is wise - but anger and such at a Doctor for giving you an answer you don't want doesn't make sense. DW is a high risk OB and is careful in the extreme. I don't know any that aren't when it comes to "unusual" things. Pregnancy can be unpleasant. You can't be angry just because a doc can't remove all the unpleasantness.

Hang in there. She'll be fine! Enjoy the new grandchild!!!

Also, on behalf of all families of OB's every where, thank your daughter for her work! :)

We are not angry at all, we are scared to death. What I meant by "blowing it off" is not saying well it could be this or it could be that etc. I mean give us something to hang on to.

I know I'm overreacting b/c of my experience with my mother. Every time I see her rubbing her thigh I feel as though I'm reliving a nightmare.
