Pregnancy Related--Tell me how you...

I could never master that----I was way off. ;)

I didn't. I gained 45 with my son and had lost most of it right away. Within the first 6 mo, I only had 5 lbs left. (Which I still have at 15 mo but am still bfing - 5-8x a day... so you can guess where that weight is)

I have a friend who gained 45 with her first. Ate whatever she wanted... was so happy. Then didn't want to do that with her second so she was careful, ate smartly, didn't snack, etc... basically kept to that 200-500 extra calories a day thing. She STILL gained 45 lbs with the second!

I think our bodies do what is best for our babies either way. Obviously, don't eat a bag of oreos every week. But as long as you aren't overdoing it or anything, let your body do what it needs to do. That is what is best for both you and your baby.

Congrats!

I ate the same with both children, excercised the same (with the exception of running after a toddler) and gained 40 with my first and under 20 with my second. I have no idea why?

I gained 26 with my first and 28 with my second. The ONLY reason is because I had gestational diabetes. I was insulin dependent from 5 months with my first and from 12 weeks with my second. I was on a strict diet because everything made my sugar go up. Looking back, it was a blessing because I probably would have gained a whole lot more.

Toddlers are great personal trainers! :rotfl2: I gained almost 40 with my first, even though I was already overweight. :scared1: Of course, we also got take-out a couple times a week because I was working full time and EXHAUSTED all the time. With #2, I made more of an effort to cook healthy meals for my toddler. Plus, we had just moved from a ranch-style home to a bigger 2-story, so climbing the stairs and chasing after my toddler definitely helped. I gained only 16 lbs.

Hmm..I certainly didn't with my first..I gained almost 60 lbs and I had morning sickness in for the first 10 weeks or so. With my ds, my morning sickness was so much worst and it lasted for the first 21 weeks...and I didn't gain anything until my morning sickness went away, and I managed to only gain about 25 lbs...but then again, I got pregnant when dd was 14 months old and I had a little toddler to take care of, and she was very active...and I barely find time to eat!

I couldn't manage it. I gained 38 w/my first, 36 w/my second. I think this time I might make it. I am 26 weeks and have gained 22 pounds.

I threw up for the entire pregnancy the first time, 20 weeks the second time, 26 weeks and counting this time!

I didn't. I gained 80 (YIKES!) with my first and 40 with my second. I am thankful to say that I have lost it all, finally (my oldest is 4 and youngest 2).

No idea. Gained over 60 pounds with DS5. I was the size of a house.

Throwing up for almost seven months sure helped!

Seriously, I think that your body gains what it needs to. That is, two women eating the same foods when pregnant may gain different amounts of weight. As with all things regarding weight, eating and exercising sensibly are probably the keys.

Well..... I gained 18 pounds. I also has morning sickness (or all day ) for 4 months. Baby weighed 9 pounds 2 ounces at birth so by the time of my 2 week checkup I was below my prepregnancy weight. I had to just eat what I felt like eating.

This was me also, pregnancy was a diet for me I could never eat much,I always felt full, all of my kids were over 9lbs so after baby was delivered I only had to lose about 10lbs which was easy, because most was fluids and placenta:rotfl: .

Me too! Actually, I gained 60 lbs with my first. I could only eat carbs (pizza, pasta, etc) for the first 14 weeks or so with the morning sickness and gained 15+ lbs in the first trimester - and it went on from there. Never lost all that weight for #2, but only gained 25 lbs with #2. I had gestational diabeties too for #2 and was on a strict diet - but not on insulin -- and I agree, a blessing in disguise at least on the weight gain side! I must say, though, I was really hungry with #2, but just couldn't eat all that I wanted! Plus, because i didn't lose all the weight from #1, I still ended up at just about the same weight high :(

I think the key to not gaining too much is to watch what you eat to the extent you can. I didn't AT ALL in my first pregnancy and used the pregnancy for an excuse to eat whatever, whenever I wanted. You're not really eating for two, you just need an extra 300 or so calories a day (don't quote me on that - can't remember the actual figure). Also, I think more smaller meals a day would help with any morning sickness.

But, part of it is beyond your control. My morning sickness/aversions with #1 meant I always had to have something in my stomach - and that couldn't be meat or veggies or i'd get sick. BUt, with #2, ANY food made my morning sickness worse.

I too had Gestational Diabetes with DD (now 5 1/2). Didn't have to do insulin, just checking a few hours after meals and first thing a.m. I followed the diet and ended up gaining about 25 pounds, whcih was gone very soon after I delivered. Of course, it all crept back because my metabolism shifted a LOT.

I think the GD diet is great for a LOT of people....it is very sensible, really not that restricting and I never felt hungry because I had snacks in between meals so my blood sugar never dropped too much. Also, people sometimes have this notion thatyou can't have carbs w/ a diabetic diet - but on the contrary, not like that at all. And the GD diet is less strict on the carbs than a regular DD. I could still eat rice and things like that, just had to watch portions.

I wish I could get on the wagon and eat that way again.....just not motivated lately!

I had gestational diabetes. So I kept to the GD diet. I gained 18 lbs before I was diagnosed with it. Then lost 20 lbs during the rest of the pregnancy (DS kept gaining & healthy, so everything was good).

I am a bit overweight to start. I gained 12 lbs with dd#1. With dd#2 I gained 9lbs but this time I had alot of night time heartburn/vomiting in the 3rd semester. I hate healthy and exercised but mostly I think it is being big to start and maybe genetics since that is around what my mother gained with her 3 pregnancies though she was underweight to start.

I gained 21 lbs with each of my girls. (And nothing with my son; he's adopted ;) )

I didn't really watch what I ate, but I did work full time with my older daughter, so I didn't really have too much time to eat. (I'm a teacher and am on my feet all day) I was home with my youngest, but stress was a big factor there; my dad was dying of cancer and my mom was ill at the same time-- who had time to eat?

I gained 35 lbs with my first, 25lbs with my 2nd and 25 with my third...
I think the key is too drink lots of water, eat lot of friuts and veggies..and walk alot. I just looked at pregnancy like it would when eating a healthy diet...everything in moderation.
