I'm doing some research on DVC and the first question I have is what is the difference between preferred and standard?

Thanks - Bekah

You have this designation at the BWV. The standard rooms are facing the driveway up to the BWV, so not much of a view, but we have had mostly standard view rooms and have had some very nice sights from the balcony. For us, the nicer views in the standard designation are far down the inner hallway, so you do have a long walk to your room.

There is a designation for Boardwalk view as well. They "cost" the preferred view points.

All of the other rooms, facing the "village green" in the front of the hotel sort of near the boardwalk, facing the pools, and other views that I don't know of also cost the "preferred view" points.

All of the Grand Villas are Boardwalk view. The other types of rooms come in all 3 designations.

The other thing you should know is that the BW View and Standard View Rooms are about 20% of the resort each. Because of the nice view with BWV and the point bargain with standard view, these rooms tend to book quickly - often right at the eleven month window. To take advantage of these rooms regularly, you'll want to own at BWV AND plan ahead to book early.

Just to reiterate, Standard and Preferred view apply ONLY at the BWV. There is no distinction in views at most of the other DVC resorts: OKW, VWL, BCV, SSR, or HH.

VB does have different views for their INN rooms, designated as Ocean View or Garden View, with a different point structure between the two views.

And the standard saves you points.
