Hi there,
This is our first trip to Disney and was wonderign what is the best route to take from Toronto. I-95 or I think it is I-79. We are going to try to do it in one day but whatever happens happens. The only thing is I want to avoid driving in the mountains at night. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi there. Yes the I79/I77 route will get you down to I95 eventually. You won't have a problem with the mountains if you leave early in the morning, you'll be driving through them during the afternoon sometime. Enjoy the drive, but don't overdo it. There are lots of hotels along the way.

Our favourite route and our favourite book.

If you're doing it in one day you won't need all of the little bits of info about every exit along the way, but the mapping itself is fantastic. He tells you what lanes to move to at what times, where the speed traps are and all kinds of other useful information

We take three days and include it as part of our vacation, so we enjoy the little bits of history and trivia about the areas we pass through and love having every gas station, food establishment and hotel mapped out for every exit along the interstate.

From the GTA the shortest route is the I-79/77/95. However, if you are driving in the winter the I-75 could be better if there is bad weather in the forcast. The difference being that you go through the mountains much further south on the I-75. The down side to that route, at any time of year, is that from the GTA it adds 3 hours onto the drive.

Might I suggest that instead of trying to drive straight through you do one long day and one short. Being tired while driving is dangerous. We will leave Oakville between 2 and 3am. DH can hit the pillow and be asleep in a minute so he goes to bed by 9pm. So that way he has had a good 5 hour sleep....he normally only sleeps 6 so he feels rested. I stay up untill we leave and then sleep for an hour until we get to the border, then I nap again after we cross. Anyway, we drive on that day until no later than 9pm. It's a long day but we are usually in the Savannah, GA area. That leaves only 3.5 hours to drive.

it is my husband and kids that want to make it straight through. I prefer to enjoy and I like to stop and explore and make it an adventure since this is the first long trip for the kids. thank you so much for your advice.
