hi, we have always stayed at POFQ, but next year we are staying at the Caribbean, so i think we will be in for a bit of a shock :scared:size wise :magnify:
we are thinking of paying the extra and get preferred rooms, (2) any advice on this please, and anything else you think we should know about the resort.
many many thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

ps
does anyone know the cost of a taxi to universal, and are there taxi that wait at the hotel in the car park like they do at POFQ or do we need to order one?

cal :)

All of the preferred rooms are in Martinique or Trinidad North. You can look at the resort map on the CBR information thread on this forum to see their locations. If you want a standard room you can always request Bldgs 45 or 51. They are located in Jamaica and Aruba villages, right across the bridge from OPR. But since this would be only a request, it isn't guaranteed. We've always stayed in Jamaica and thought the walking distance was easy.

There is a fare estimator here:http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=Orlando

There are usually a few taxis outside OPR. But you can call the front desk from your room and ask to have a taxi pick you up at (or near) your building. There is a small driveway circle at each village for picking up/ dropping off guests, loading luggage, etc.

When we went off property a few years back we booked transportation through Mears. They picked us and several other families up at the front of our resort in a bus and took us to Universal. Told us where to find them at the end of the day. It was very convenient.

We stayed in Martinique in June in a standard room and it was relatively close to the bus stop, Old Port Royale and the Martinique pool. We booked standard. I wouldn't spend the extra for preferred. Just request Martinique when you do online check in.

The size of CBR is way overstated due to Trinidad South. Take away Trinidad South and it is about the same size as CSR and one of the PO resorts...forget which one. As for the cab @revdon64 is correct. Just make sure your cabbie knows where they are going. Ours got lost on the way to the MK for our breakfast reservation...and she had Garmin.

CBR can be a culture shock after POFQ! LOL! It really is a nice resort but a preferred room can be a bonus if you are used to POFQ and do not want to chance a longer distance to OPR and the feature pool. I would pay and be glad I did.

I think that the Food Court/Market Place is loud, but believe that it is deliberate to mimc the market places found itn Carribean towns. I am not sure of this, since I have never been to any of those islands, but it sure seemed to be planned. I enjoyed it.

The beaches are lovely, and have hammocks in place to relax and enjoy. I spent several afternoons just reading while my little DGD played in the sand.

Just be aware of the size and you will have realistic expectations if you use Disney transportation. We had just come off of a Poly trip, so my family was not happy with the bus service. I was fine with it, but they really did not like the numerous stops. I think that this will be the issue if there is any with your family. The bus stops.

If you plan to utilize the refillable mugs and/or the food court for most of your refreshment, then yes, I would (and do) pay for a preferred location.

On different trips I traveled with a friend who doesn't drink soda at all, and we didn't request anything close and everything was fine. It's a BEAUTIFUL resort and the rooms are so quiet.

thanks for your info, i think i will def go ahead and book a preferred room, thinking Martinique block 25

We were in Bldg 23 and had a great room. It was standard view.
