We haven't camped at Ft. Wilderness in years but have a reservation for this October. I reserved a preferred pet loop. I've been looking at the maps and it seems that 300 is the only one that fits. Is this correct?

We'll probably be arriving fairly late unless I can convince hubby to break up the drive. Will a spot here be held for us? We really don't need the premium upgrade and I'd rather not pay the extra $$. Are "upgrades" free at Ft. Wilderness if 300 is full?

Thanks!

Jennifer

Yes, 300 is the only preferred pet loop. Let them know you may be a late check-in.

If 300 is full, chances are good they will upgrade you to a premium pet loop.

Here's my information re: the Loops

Loop 100 - Preferred
Loop 200 - Preferred
Loop 300 - Preferred Pet
Loop 400 - Premium
Loop 500 - Premium Pet
Loop 600 - Premium
Loop 700 - Premium Pet
Loop 800 - Premium Pet
Loop 900 - Premium Pet
Loop 1000 - Premium
Loop 1100 - Premium
Loop 1200 - Premium Pet
Loop 1300 - Premium Pet
Loop 1400 - Premium
Loop 1500 - Partial
Loop 1600 - Preferred Pet
Loop 1700 - Preferred
Loop 1800 - Preferred Pet
Loop 1900 - Preferred
Loop 2000 - Partial

As far as I know this information has not changed. My list is a couple months old now. I don't think you would have to pay for an upgrade that Ft. Wilderness is placing you in due to the preferred not being available. I think if you request it, then you would have to pay for the upgrade. :thumbsup2

Thanks! This is our first time bringing my Shih Tzu to Disney. We camped almost every year back in the 90s but with kids instead of dogs. I have so many good memories of those days!

I think I'll wait till the Free Dining madness has settled a bit before I call about the late arrival:)

also i went in there one time with a pet. it was at christmas and i stayed on a prefferred loop. they did not upgrade me but they put me on a prefferred non pet site. they made me sign a paper that i knew this and gave me a copy that my dog was approved for that loop in case i was questioned. however this was three years ago and knowone asked any questions. my dog is pretty quiet so i do not think it bothered anyone to my knowledge

Well, Jack the Shih Tzu is seven and has never been a noisy dog. He pretty much lies around most of the time. Our daughter is moving to New Orleans in May so we're losing our dog sitter. He hates kennels, even the fancy ones, so I figured we'd give this a try. He's camped with us often but never at Disney.

We always take our dogs and they love it. We stay in the full hook up loops. If you don't mind being further away from the marina, this is always an option. :earsboy:

We've always stayed up near the marina but I'm pretty open. Hasn't Disney changed it so some buses leave from the front and some from the marina? That would make the location pretty much of a wash.

We ABSOLUTELY must have cable TV. We're going during football season. Are all of the full hook-ups fitted out with cable?

Jennifer

All full hook ups now have cable tv. It was great not to have to bring our antena with us when we were there in December.

also i went in there one time with a pet. it was at christmas and i stayed on a prefferred loop.

These days if it's busy/full enough, they will generally put the pet people just about anywhere, not just dedicated pet loops.

We are going down the first week in december and taking the little people with us. Booked a Premium pet site. What are the best loops? First time camping there in about 15 years.< Flying was the preferred way til now> Hoping the wife, 2 dogs and 3 year little girl don't drive me nuts going down the east coast.

Loop 500 is the best loop at the Fort... especially among the Premiums. Yes, this is an objective fact.

We will be there over the 4th of July. I'll request 500 as my first choice, but anyone know about 400. The closer to the Marina the better. I love the sounds.

To the OP:

Sounds like it's been a few years since you've been to the Fort? You'll want to study the new transportation routes a bit.

Basically, from the Pioneer Hall area ("The Settlement") you can get to the stuff on the Monorail loop. From the "front" ("The Outpost") you can go to all the other places.

There's 3 internal buses. There's three colors:

(Correct map now, as corrected below by TCD.)

Buses change colors at the Settlement and Outpost. They may also lose they color and head for The Lodge. It can be confusing for a few days.

Also, the TTC is no longer the hub it once was, don't bother going there.

All that said, we've stayed in the 100 loop and the 1600/1700/1800/1900 clover in our last couple trips. The 100 loop was very nice to be able to simply walk to the boats. But the full hookup loops were nice with our golfcart because they are roughly halfway between the Settlement and Outpost. We also stayed in the full hookup loops without our golfcart having to wait for an internal bus, then wait for another bus to leave the Fort took a certain amount of patience. Some (me) are OK with that, others (my wife), not so much.

Lot's of folks use the Magic Kingdom as a pseudo hub. The boat from the Fort is direct, frequent, and enclosed on cool nights. There are thousands of people leaving the Magic Kingdom at all hours. Catching a bus from there after a quick boat ride is often quicker than waiting at the Fort where a few hundred people are served. I have even found that the buses to and from the Lodge seem more frequent. Catch things just right and you don't even have to get off at the Lodge and switch buses to go to the Fort, the bus you're on may not go directly back to where it came from. Some stop at the Lodge, go to Pioneer Hall, then to the Outpost (as an Orange bus I think), then leave from there back to where they came from.

One last tip. Don't be afraid to tell the drivers where you're headed. I've had them switch their route around slightly just for us, or a few of us. Mostly had that happen late, and when there's just a few people on the bus, but it has saved us from a long bus ride and/or transfer someplace. All the drivers have a complete schedule for the day too. They can tell what buses are going where, instead of guessing and hoping.

One really last thing. I prefer using Disney transportation (besides our golfcart). But I can definitely see where some folks prefer to simply drive their own cars to the parks. That's another option.

And as long as I've sent this thread sideways to transporation. I haven't done it, can someone tell me if it's a viable option to get to/from the Fort from/to the Hollywood studios by taking a boat over to/from EPCOT and to/from the Fort from there? The buses to and from the Studios seem to go all over.

Thanks for the info Shan-man. We were checking out your TR and loved the pics. my daughter said, " hey there's Santa and Mickey"! Any chance your going back to the Fort this Xmas season??

If you bring your bikes, the ride from the 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900 loops is not far in either direction. There is a side walk that is directly behind the 1700 loop and you can walk to the outpost. We do this alot and it's a very enjoyable walk. It is also well lit now. They have installed new lights along the path. You are also close to the pool, etc.:smickey:

Thanks so much for the map!!!!

Is the transportation as complicated as it seems? I remember just walking down to the Settlement Depot and getting all the buses there, but that was at least 10 years ago and my memory is only so-so, probably due in great part to the Greatful Dead thing ;) In the mornings we'll probably drive to all of the parks except for the Magic Kingdom. I was thinking about using the buses in the evening so that we could enjoy the Food and Wine Festival. I'm extremely dyslexic and neither of us has what you'd call mad navigational skills even before a festive evening at F & W!

We've stayed in off-site condos for the past few trips and I was hoping that Ft. Wilderness would give us something like the flexibility of a condo but without the driving at night. Now I'm worried we'll end up as the Flying Dutchmen of the Disney bus system.

Thanks!

Jennifer

You can get a bus to Animal Kingdon, EPCOT, and Mickey's Hollywood Studios (MGM) at the outpost. You can also get the bus for Downtown Disney and the water parks from there also. It's not really a big deal. The boat to the Magic Kingdom is at the Marina. You can also get a boat to The Contemporary from there and then walk or take the monorail to The Magic Kingdom. I personally wouldn't drive to the parks if I didn't have to. The bus ride aren't bad and you get to meet alot of people.:earsboy::earsboy:

It is confusing at first. I'll try to shorten my LONG post down:

From the Pioneer Hall area ("The Settlement") you can get to the stuff on the original Monorail loop. (Buses or boats)

From the "front" ("The Outpost") you can go to all the other places. (Buses)

And don't bother going to the TTC anymore.

So now I'm thinking we'd prefer to be nearer the Outpost? Are there still bike racks near the bus stops? Epcot is going to be the focus of this trip. Scott is not a Disney fan but he loves the Food and Wine Festival.

Does the boat run after Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Festival?

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with this!
