Hi, everyone! We are on our way back to Fort Wilderness next week for a 9 night stay. :bounce: I just called, and they were able to give us a preferred site! :bounce: It may need to be a pet loop, but I am not sure yet. We are trying to decide if we should let our dachshund stay at the kennel. He has a tendency to bark - a lot- and we don't want to disturb other campers. During the day is the problem, so we had thought about letting him stay at the kennel only during the day. However, between the $5 charge for camping and $6 for staying in the kennel during the day, it would be cheaper just to let him stay at the kennel. Am I understanding that correctly?

Also, this will be our first time in a preferred site. What are your favorites? Last trip, we stayed in the 1600 loop, but this time we want the benefit of cable. We have 5 and 1 yo sons, so I know we will be spending a little time in the afternoon for baby naps.

Thank you for the replies. It is always nice to get everyone's opinions about the loops. You all helped me choose 1600 last time and it was great. :thumbsup2

Take care,
Michele

HAPPY 1st Birthday to our little one!!! :bday: :bday:

We have a Jack Russell that barks at his own shadows...What we usuallly do is turn on some music and the T.V. and he does fine. i THINK that you have to go walk your dog at the kenn. and we decided it was more difficult to run back and forth throughout the day....Also if you want the CM to walk your dog there is a charge....

I would suggest trying to keep your dog in the camper for a few days and see if it works for you...If you dont mind running to the Kennel from where you are at, then go with the kennel...

Totally agree with previous poster. Turn the radio on, leave the AC on and see how the pup does. He will definately be happier staying in the camper then in the kennel. Since you are in a pet loop, most people understand that there might be a barking dog nearby. As long as he's not barking at night when people are trying to sleep, it shouldn't be a problem.

We stay in the cabins and LOVE the kennels when we bring our dogs. VERY clean, friendly cm. Our dog's pillow and blanket were washed everyday.... and they even nicknamed our baby. :rotfl:

Let's just say she liked to bark and whine after we left

We used the kennel a couple of years back. You do have to return and walk your dog at least once during the day. That being the case, the next trip we opted to leave him in the trailer in his kennel, and come back and walk him during the day. He always loved his kennel, and I think he was happier being at 'home'.

One of the reasons we got a motorhome is for our dogs. Why break their heart for 9 days by coming to see this member of your family just to walk them. If you keep him on your site he will spend every night with the family he loves and not in a strange place. If you keep the TV or Radio on that will drown out most of the campground noise and if he is like our dogs will sleep most of the day in his own surroundings. Hope this helps. :dogdance:

If you talk to the front desk, sometimes they will waive the pet fee on the camp site if you are using the kennel. Probably just depends on who you talk to tho, and what their mood is, since I dont think it's a policy :rotfl2:

Our 110 lb Shepard always camps with us, that's why we have a motorhome. He is always quite when we are not there, unless the horses go by his site.
Dogs that bark once in a while are no problem, but some dogs bark constantly and are very annoying. We have seen people asked to kennel their dogs or leave after guests have complained.
Make sure your dog doesn't bark when you leave it for the day and he will be so happy to be on vacation with you

We too camp with a large German Shepherd and doing it since she was a puppy. Haven't had any problems with her barking although this will be our first time at Ft. Wilderness, we decided to board her at home so we can have a week away to ourselves. If we had a large rv we would have brought her and left the tv or music and ac on and know there would be no problems.
