It’s not a magic bullet, but it is a starting point. We will always have those who have no intention of getting the vaccine. We will also have those that want the vaccine but for medical reasons are unable to receive it. The first group will get sick and run the same risk as those who choose not to get the measles vaccine and not DCL’s fault. The second group will have to choose an alternative and safer vacation option with fewer unvaccinated folks and at a greater distance.
I completely agree...unfortunately this process takes quite a bit of time. This is why I think even if a vaccine is available in early 2021, we're still looking at about a year beyond that where things may somewhat be returning to "normal" and high risk activities like cruising can begin again. Restrictions like wearing masks and social distancing on a cruise ship just aren't possible.

I think if hiccups do not occur, a slower start as the number of vaccination numbers rise to meet the need.
My pondering mind wonders if they will start pre-vax, early-vax, mid-vax, or post vax? I’m thinking Disney will start mid-vax as not everyone is planning to receive it anyway. And the world-ports will have to take the infectious from each sailing or close the port. Americans will get a bad rap for refusing the shot, should not be much worse than our reputation currently.
On another note, regarding masks. They currently have a mask-security force at WDW so it can happen at DCL for a while at least. Parks are getting people to attend, so apparently some people are over the hassle and enjoying short lines.
So are you are a post-vaccination camp voter? I’m going for mid, but I’m hopeful for early for my January cruise.

I'm hoping for early january 2021 and that's what most experts are saying. I just think wearing masks on the dee of a cruise ship is impossible. On sea days the pool and decks are wall to wall people. People jumping in and out of pools, eating and drinking...very different than parks. I just don't see how it's possible to ask people to walk around the decks of a ship on those days wearing masks...and the pools..social distance? you can even move a foot in them...chairs are all right next to one another. Just don't see it as possible.

especially with about 40% of the country saying they won't get the vaccine.

That's close to being OK. We only need approx 70% to get the vaccine in order for heard immunity to stop the spread. So If 30% choose not to get the vaccine, we'll be good to go. If 40% are saying they won't get the vaccine, then we really only need to change the minds of about 10% of the country. Convincing only 10% is a workable task, we don't need to convince 100%.

Aside from it being possible, who would want to wear a mask everywhere on an expensive cruise? Disney cruises can cost upward of $1,000 per night for only 2 passengers in a standard stateroom. It's hard to imagine paying that much & being forced to wear masks everywhere, especially on Castaway Cay.

Exactly....of course it's "possible" but cruise ships are very different than hotels and theme parks. You can limit capacity at a resort pool, you can't on a ship...no one else allowed on deck 10??? and I agree who in their right mind would pay for that type of experience.

Never. Never ever go on a cruise.

We moved our cancelled August 2020 cruise til end of March 2021 and I think we have a less than 25% chance of it sailing. At this point I'm concerned about our August 2021 Europe cruise!

Worried about my June cruise as well. Will be canceling come February, before PIF, if things have not improved. Not reliving the roller coaster of this year waiting for a cancellation and refund. And I don't want to be heavily restricted for an expensive cruise. Everyday I lose a bit more hope that I will be going.

Same. I was fine paying our 4 night Oct cruise in full, got the FCC and put it on a Nov 2021 cruise. But paying Europe in full with so much uncertainty, nope.

I’ll be honest I don’t think I would be in a rush to have it, I worry there trying to rush this vaccine so much

I no it probably should be safe etc but just worry it’s rushed and then end up with a side effect because of it

maybe me been silly but just the way I feel

This is how I feel about our 14 nt WBPC for Feb 2021. FPDD is late Oct. I will cancel before that but for now I'm in wait and see mode. Too much can happen in the 4 months between Oct and Feb. I'd rather cancel and rebook again at the last minute, than have DCL hold onto $8000+ that is non-refundable with no reopening on the horizon. I finally gave up and put that $8k down on our mortgage principal. I might as well bang that out while we are in no travel mode. My mortgage calculator shows we can pay off in 2 years instead of 8. I never thought I could give up travel for that long but it seems when push comes to shove, I can. Might as well have some positive thing result from all of this.
If miracles happen and we can sail, I will gladly dip into savings to make it happen. I'm hanging onto those vacation days off until the last minute.

Sounds like this thread has also become a vaccine debate and is no longer about opinons on OPs cruise sailing. With close to 100 votes already too I am going to go ahead and close the thread.
