PREDAYS Part #2

This morning we splurged and had breakfast delivered via room service. On the room service flyer in our room it stated that the breakfast vouchers (we received a voucher for each breakfast that was included in our stay total of 4 days worth) would be accepted by room service. You had to pay the additional room service fee of 3.50 Euro plus tip. It was worth it to relax and sleep in. Just a heads up Irish bacon is more like strips of ham rather than the bacon we are used to in the US.

We left the hotel around noon and walked the 1-minute to the front of Trinity College to catch the green Hop On Hop Off Dublin Bus Tour. I paid the driver 18Euros (cost for adults) and asked how much DD would be as today was her birthday so she had just turned 15. He was so sweet and said, Shes not 15 today, shell be 14 and free and with a wink and let us board. Kids 14 and under are free with a paying adult. The receipt is your ticket and it is good through the last pickup on the following day. The bus drivers did a commentary of the sights as we passed. We got off the bus and stopped at Christ Church Cathedral. The cost was around 10Euro for the both of us. A US choir was singing in the cathedral that day so we listened to them for a bit before walking around the church.

Down in the crypt they had costumes from the TV show The Tudors as it has filmed scenes on location in the church.

There was also the mummified body of a cat and a rat that had been found in one of the pipes of the organ when it was being cleaned. Their bodies were amazingly well preserved.

We got back on the bus and I took pictures of the next stop, St Patricks Church, as we passed by. We didnt stop there as I knew DD could only handle touring so many churches.

We traveled on to Kilmainham Gaol built in the late 18th century. This jail was state of the art for its time with separate cells, windows and the famous large room built so that the guards could easily see and hear all the cells/inmates.

The leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising were all jailed and executed via firing squad at this jail.

This is one of the crosses at the site of the executions.

We arrived back at the hotel around dinner time and I stopped at the front desk to ask about the ABD welcome letter. I did get a copy of it although they didn't have me on the list as part of the ABD group. :confused3
Room service delivered a slice of raspberry cheesecake as a birthday surprise for DD. She thought the cake was delicious.

We walked about 2 blocks to the Temple Bar area and had dinner at Elephant & Castle, another dining suggestion from the hotel staff. They served more of an Americanized menu and DD wanted a burger. We also shopped around for souvenirs and DD found a pullover sweatshirt that she really liked. You will see it in many following photos.
