Pre-trip: The trip that almost wasn't

Departure day is next Thursday, Sept. 6th. We'll be driving in from TX, and we'll drive as long as we can stand it Thursday and then the rest of the way Friday am. We are all really looking forward to this, it will be our first trip ever to Florida. The kids are counting down the days. Rock the Universe tickets are bought (got the whole weekend ones, which include admission to both parks Friday, Saturday and Sunday), the vacation rental home has been paid in full, Daytona USA tickets are bought, Dixie Stampede tickets are bought, etc. So......
Dh gets to work this morning and his boss tells him he thinks it would be a good idea if he cancelled/postponed his vacation, as things are getting very busy at work. HUH? Dh explained that he really couldn't, as most of the trip has already been paid for. He had been told weeks ago that this time off would be ok. He was then told "Well I guess you can go ahead and go if you want to kiss off a good job." The boss told dh that he could take it up with HIS boss,Chuck (the job superintendant, and someone dh had never met before), and that if HE approved it...which was highly unlikely...dh could go. Otherwise he basically had to choose between the vacation and his job.
So after a morning spent in tears and prayers, I finally heard back from dh. When I answered the phone he was laughing so hard he could not speak at first. I thought the poor man had had a nervous breakdown. When he finally composed himself, he said "Man it's good to have family in high places". I couldn't imagine WHAT on earth he was talking about. Well, it turns out that "Chuck" is dh's second cousin, Charlie, who he had not seen in several years. Didn't even know they were in the same line of work. After a nice reunion and catching up on family news, dh left with assurances that he could take his vacation without fear of losing his job!
So, barring any additional unforseen circumstances, we will be leaving home 8 days and 18 hours! See you in a couple of weeks with a full report and pics.

Holy cow!!! What a story! Glad it looks like you are back on schedule. I'd have been close to having a heart attack if that had happened to me.

Wow now thats what i call wild and same happened to my dw when we were about to go on vacation this past june and she went to the main boss and she told her she told them 8 months or more in advance and to make a long story short her boss was mad and told her next year she had to wait till midddle or end of june next year.

WOW!!! Looks like those prayers paid off....what a coincidence! Bet your DH's boss was ticked! Good for the SOB!
