OK. It seems there is a trend on the DIS trip reports board to begin PRE-trip reports. So I decided that between reading all the awesome trip reports (pre and post) that I will begin my own. So here goes! :thumbsup2

This year’s trip wasn’t supposed to happen. :confused3 We were going to “take a break from the Mouse.” I was NOT ok with this, but I knew it had to be done for $$$ reasons. Now, even though DH was a no-go for Disney (as far as his wallet was concerned) I still had a bleeding heart for that 47 square mile piece of land in Lake Buena Vista. I started saving a little bit from each paycheck, I started teaching some voice lessons (I’m a music teacher) and I also started dropping hints to DH that I really wanted to go to Disney. Badly. VERY badly.

Still, DH wouldn’t budge. :sad2:

So it seemed that 2006 would be the summer without Disney. :sad1: It was ok. We had done it before – when I was pregnant with DD. Oh, but then there was that great tax refund and my maternity leave with a trip for Halloween that year so I guess we never REALLY took a summer off!

Then my dad kind of blew me away. :bitelip: First he offered us the money to go on a 7 night/8 day Disney trip. What?!? Dad – you are my HERO! :bounce: But I felt awfully guilty about this, so I thanked him and said, “Dad, we’ll just wait until 2007.” That was VERY hard to do, by the way.

Then my mom calls me a few days after Dad put the “offer” on the table. Now, when Dad made the offer, it was just for my DH, myself and our two kids. No mention of my parents going – Dad seemed still set in his “way,” even though they have enjoyed coming on every trip with us since 2001. So Mom says, “I’ve been thinking. I want to go to Disney, too!” Well now, this changed EVERYTHING!!! :cloud9:

Mom and I went into planning overdrive! First question was “Where are we gonna stay?” The answer? WILDERNESS LODGE. Duh. :thumbsup2

Next was “When are we going to go?” This took a little more thought because I still was planning that 2007 trip – a BIG one! So we got a calendar and looked at dates. I wanted to be in WDW over 4th of July in 2007 (until the 2007 ‘seasons’ were announced – I’ll save that for NEXT year’s TR!). So we decided our best bet was to get annual passes and go later in July this year and earlier in July next year.

The dates? July 17 to 24, 2006. 7 nights/8 days at our beloved WL!!! :woohoo:

I contacted my DU agent, told her the good news and within a couple of hours we were booked in 2 woods view rooms with the AAA rate. (WILL there be AP rates? No! :furious: ) Now, I mentioned above how I had been saving some money and teaching some lessons. This afforded me to pay the deposit for both rooms at the WL. I told my parents that this was the LEAST I could do since they were footing the bill for the airfare and rooms. At this point, I knew I’d have to save hard to pay for 3 annual passes, but it was all good!

Now when Mom and I told Dad our doings, we were concered about his reaction. OK – so this man NEVER ceases to amaze me. He was THRILLED!!! And then he said, “You know what? We should just go to Disney every year from now on.” Knock my socks off, Dad! You’ve got a deal!!! :yay:

So plan I did. I made ADR’s. I changed ADR’s. I found out the WL was being RENOVATED! Huh!??! I need to be a NEW room! Emailed my DU agent to put that request in (along with a room overlooking the otter pond on the 5th or 6th floor – hey I want that MK view). Have I mentioned that in the 3 times we’ve stayed at WL and made that request we have NEVER gotten it? Maybe this trip we WILL! :wizard: :genie:

Next step was to be on the airfare hunt. I downloaded DING and checked all the airlines that fly non-stop from Philly to Orlando. USAirways wants HOW MUCH??? Airtran – no non-stops. Southwest? Come ON! Publish your summer rates! :badpc:

Finally, one cold morning in February, the rates are OUT. And they’re good! $79 each way. I can deal with that, plus I’m too impatient to wait for a DING. (Why do I download it anyway?) I’m so glad we got this airfare because a month later, the fares went UP to $109 each way. So I got in good! Thanks Southwest! Luv ya!

Then the good news comes. Oh, you thought that the Disney-Trip-That-Wasn’t-Supposed-To-Be-But-Is was the good news? Well, ok. You’re right. It was. But there’s more good news. DH got a RAISE!!!! Woo hoo!!! :woohoo: :smokin: Our prospects are getting better and better.

So here we are, about 2 ½ weeks away from our Trip-That-Wasn’t-Supposed-To-Happen and I’ve started packing, I have our annual passes, our Disney Dining Experience card, a gift card from the Disney Store (they never had Disney Dollars when I went) and a countdown that isn’t going fast enough! :hourglass

My kids are excited. My parents are excited. My DH is excited and I cannot stop walking, talking, eating, sleeping, breathing or dreaming DISNEY! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I’ll keep you posted on the days to come – the last minute shopping we ALL do, the “when are we going to Disney, mommy?” moments my kids have, the calls to double check our ADR’s and the special surprises I have in place…

Ah, this is only the beginning! :wave2:

OH WOW.......I am in planning overdrive too....I am excited for you and can hardly wait for your honest to goodness at WL report.....Try the Earl of Sandwich too when you go to Downtown Disney.......what an awesome sandwich place.....
We used DDE at Biergarten and got a good rate off......have fun

Wow, if your dad wants to go every year, he should look into buying DVC.

Are you going again during Halloween?

Wow, if your dad wants to go every year, he should look into buying DVC.

We have looked into DVC. My dad would rather hold on to his money and invest it his way then pay for the vacations one at a time. He also likes staying at Polynesian, GF and WL - and right now only the WL has the DVC accommodations. Now if anything is ever built at the Polynesian for DVC, then maybe he will reconsider. But right now he's ok going one trip at a time.

Are you going again during Halloween?

Yes - but it is just going to be me, DH and the kids. I'm paying for this one 100%. We're staying at the GF. :Pinkbounc Cannot wait!!!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for sharing.

Having met your family, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! Your dad is very cool! You think he'll pay for me, too? ;)

If you go to Ohana, have a chicken wing for me!

Thanks for posting, and have a great time!

Karen,

Sure, come along!!! We WILL be dining at 'Ohana (what's a trip without it?) and I'll be sure to have a wing for ya!

Anne :goodvibes

You are very blessed. What a great dad. Have a great trip!

We will be IN the MK. Surrounded by, immersed in and drenched to the bone with Disney magic!!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :tinker:

However, the final hurdle is just beginning. Getting my DH to pack. Yes, he is a procrastinator until the very end! I have had the suitcases out for a month and one whole suitcase is packed, zipped and begging for the DME tags! :wave2:

There's another suitcase that has all of the kids' clothes, some of my clothes, extra shoes, socks, snacks, etc. that will get the rest of my clothes on Friday night. Then there's the one big EMPTY suitcase that is just calling my DH. Scott, oh Scott??? When are you going to start filling me up? I mean, my DH wears jeans and casual shirts to work. So his shorts and "Disney tees" (Disney tees are white so that he doesn't melt :lmao: ). are neatly piled and READY to go in. But has he put them in or even asked me to? NO! He has to try everything on. I swear, he is worse than a woman!

So last night he was supposed to do his annual "getting ready for Disney" ritual, but it didn't happen. And it won't happen tonight - he has to mow the lawn. Tomorrow is iffy...let's see, if my crystal ball is correct, we should see the "ritual" materialize at about midnight on Sunday July 16th. :genie: If he does get to it before then, I think I might just :faint: .

As I said in the OP, my dad is paying for most of the trip. OK, make that my mom who is in charge of all the finances, but it was my dad's idea. So I've got some surprises in store for them with just the right amount of pixiedust: .

Surprise #1. A gift bakset from peggyssweetsandmore.com complete with a WL Mickey, water, snacks, nuts, pretzels and other yummies for my parents' late night snacking pleasure. Also, a romantic evening for two at Citricos. :cloud9: I thought this was the least we could do since they're being so incredibly generous to us! Lastly, my mom's birthday was July 8th, so I have arranged a birthday cake for her from WL's private dining. Happy Birthday, mommy! :bday:

Now, on to my kids. DS is ready for his adventure! He's looking forward to the Haunted Mansion :hmghost: , but won't go on pirates, pirate: , wants to meet Minnie ::MinnieMo and give her a big hug :grouphug: and hopes he runs into :darth: at MGM. He's also ready to try Star Tours. We'll see ;) .

DD is all about the Princesses! princess: Being royalty herself, she is completely ready to rub elbows with the likes of Cinderella, Belle and her favorite, Ariel. She also has to hang with Minnie ::MinnieMo and wants to see Tink fly! :tinker: (OK, maybe it's mommy that wants to see Tink fly ;) ).

Anyway, the gang is ready, and packed (almost) and just completely impatient for the week to end.

DD's birthday is this Friday and we're celebrating here with a Princess cake (of course!) and again in WDW with another Princess cake (who wouldn't? :confused3 ). So the days will be long, but before we know it we'll be on that jetliner heading to the place all airplanes go (according to my kids) DISNEY WORLD!!!

:yay: :yay: :yay:

See ya there! Or when we get back!

DH did it - I cannot believe it - he did it!!! And I am about ready to :faint: .

He did not wait until the last minute to try on his clothes for our trip! :goodvibes When I woke up this morning, I went to check something in the suitcases and noticed that DH's clothes are IN the suitcase that had been emptly for the past 4 weeks! When he woke up he looked at me and said, "And you thought I was going to wait until midnight on Sunday, didn't you?" Then he laughed an evil, wicked laugh... :maleficen and I gave him a big smooch puckerup: and thanked him for making my pre-trip days less stressful!

So now I only have to do some last minute laundry :laundy: , I'm almost done my summer camp program (tomorrow is the last session and our performance - I teach musical theatre :goodvibes ), I have a haircut on Friday, Erika's birthday is also on Friday and she has her 2 year well-visit PLUS we're having a mini (not ::MinnieMo ) bithday party for her! :bday: :cake: :bday:

I am just about ready, mindset wise. I just have to get through today's rehearsal with the camp kids and then after tomorrow's performance I can be completely in Disney mode! Woo hoo!!! :Pinkbounc

I cannot believe the trip is nearly here!!! :cloud9:

I'll probably post one more pre-trip report before departing on Monday, then you can look forward to (I hope you'll look forward to) a full-fledged trip report with LOTS of pictures!!!

Usually the unplanned trips are the best. I hope that you have a great time. I wish my parents offered to take me. Maybe if I had a couple of kids :)

The pre trip has been fun, I can't wait for the REAL TR!!!

Looking forward to the trippie!

Your parents are wonderfull :thumbsup2

Scanne,
This all makes me want to go back!!! I am a full time planner for our Disney Trips and am dreaming of our next adventure. But first I have to have a date for our return to Orlando. Wish it was tomorrow, but we have a rule only one Disney trip a year. Silly rule.

We went into the Disney Store today and they had adult t-shirts on sale for $4.99. I tried on a Minnie Mouse tee - size M - WOW! - looked so cute. Saw a Mickey tee for DH - they had his size. The kids were already set to wear their Mickey (DS) and Minnie (DD) tees - so...............

we are going to look like the dorkiest family on earth when we show up at Philly International on Monday morning wearing our "mice" t-shirts! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

You DORKS! I LOVE the matchy-matchy shirts you did! We can't wait to hear how your trip was!!! Hope you had a great time! What fabulous parents you have!!! Jeal-ous!!!!!! You're so sweet to treat them to a night out and a snack basket etc! Now you can look foreward to disney family fun every year- lucky ducks!!!

What a night! We're leaving in 8 hours for the airport - I have to wake up in 4.5 hours. But am I asleep? NO! I'm on these darn boards ;) telling you the saga of the misplaced DME tags. This little hiccup nearly had me in a panic attack!

We did our last minute shopping and packing today. I tried to keep my kids from napping but DD slept from 3 to 4:15pm. Ugh. And yes, we DID have trouble getting her to bed at 9pm. Plus the day was totally stressful!

DH and I had an argument around dinner time. Lovely. :furious:

DS was over tired and not listening (my fault for keeping him up all day). :confused3

DD was stripping in the grocery store and saying "Pirate ship!" which comes out sounding like "Pile of s&#!." What kind of parent am I?? :rolleyes1

So then I did the final packing but didn't put the DME tag on ONE suitcase. I'll call it the monster. It's huge. It weighs 20 pounds with nothing in it. We've got to get rid of it. Last year, it cost us $25 to fly it down to Florida and $50 to fly it back. Southwest was really strict on its weight requirements. So the monster went tagless because we wanted to weigh it. Good thing we did. It was over 50 pounds on the first two weighs. Then we got it to 48 pounds. Good enough, I hope.

After frantically searching for those lost tags, we decided we'd use my mom's extra one and we'd meet at the long term parking at 5am. I went to sleep. 5 minutes late DH comes in with the tags!!! They were stuffed in the front pocket of the monster way down deep. Good thing I had DH check the trash!!! ;)

So that's the saga of the day.

I can't wait to finally GET to Disney. I think I've earned this vacation. I don't even want pixie dust. I'll settle for a Mickey Bar. :mickeybar
