Was anyone else taken back by the pricey list of hors derves?? My planner sent me a menu today and everything was like $48 per person, which is almost as much as a full meal!!! Some stuff was more like $13 per person but it was a station and you had to get a minimum of 3 stations for 1 1/2 hrs! I couldn't believe it...can you not have food at your pre-reception and just serve something like lemondade? Or I was wondering if they had anything on the lighter and (cough cough cheaper) side like fresh fruit or cheese and crackers. I just really didn't figure this into the budget so it's kinda like a shocker!! :guilty:

There are many different options if you have to cut back at your pre reception.Don't panic. If you go for a planning session they are very helpful.Ask your wedding coordinator for other ideas. We had fresh fruit and an antipasto. Some people don't have one at all.You can pretty much have whatever you want.

Don't panic...we're having cheeses and veggies, which I think is more like $9 a person, still a lot, but much better than some options. We're having our dinner at the GF, we modified those menus and they came out less expensive than we thought. We didn't want heavy food at the pre-reception since we will be having a very large meal. You can modify those menus and they can be less, you'll work it out! Disney has been great to work with! Good luck!

Gosh that is A LOT. I am having a brunch and really thought I would just have fruit and cheese, is that really high? At our home reception a nice sit down dinner is 20 per... Well share with us, because I am afarid that there will be a bunch of little costs. I do not even know if I am planning to decorate for the pre reception...what do you all think (it is at Martha's Vineyard).

We decided to skip it, and put the money other places because we are on a strict budget. I don't regret doing it b/c we are having our photos before!

you can defintely scale back your prereception to fruit & vegetable displays for like $10pp. give your em a call to discuss.

were having 6 appetizers & oprn bar at our prereception from 2-4 since we consider that lunch for most of our guests ntm our family is big eaters & always has tons of food. dinner will be at 5 at our reception & most of them will be arriving for the ceremony around 12:30. our prereception is $41pp for food & includes a fruit display, vegetable & dip tray, shrimp cocktail & crabcakes, mini deep dish pizza & pierogis.

We had cheese and cracker display, fruit display and hummus with flat bread at our prereception. The food was great and no where near $48 a person. Definitely talk with your WP!

We are having a brunch so our pre-reception is from 10:30-11:30 with the reception to follow. We decided that this would be way too much food for such a short period of time. We will be serving our signature drink (alcohalic) and a lemonade puch.

allisonswonderland - our prereception is at marthas vineyard this march & its actually nice as is, even the tables & chairs. the only decor item were having is some pictures (our engagement pic, parents & grandparents wedding pic) in gold frames on 1 table.

Im skipping food on the pre reception. Im only having a small wedding and most of my family have already said they would like to see some of the photos being taken etc. So im just going to have a few tables with some bottles of wine and lemonade or something on their - as i didnt want to pay the $500 odd for a bar for the sake of 1hr!

Our reception is in the Asbury room so does anyone know where i would have the pre reception?

We did the same thing...I think the pre reception is SO short and a good number of people don't even get there for most of it--half my guests were stuck taking family photos that I wanted! And then the wedding party and parents get delayed...AND most importantly you and dh don't get ANY:)
