We Are: Myself, Mother of Lynn and proud Grammie of Wade (just turned 8) and Tyler (just turned 5).
Friday 29: This is our AK day, and Tyler woke up with 101 temperature. Since his behavior seems pretty normal, we decided to go to AK and hit the highlights, then take him to the doctor. We were a bit late getting there, and the crowds were already moving through. We went directly to Safari and got a FP that gave us just enough time to go down the Pangani Forest walk. It was a really good viewing of the under-water hippo that appeared to be sharpening his huge teeth on an under-water chunk of a tree. Those teeth are enormous. The gorillas were also up and about, with the babies (pre-teens by now) rolling around and playing. The daddy gorilla, who had been sitting with his back to the crowd, most have been given some sort of signal because the whole group (2 babies and 2 adults) all got up and walked over to the other side of the viewing area. We had similar good luck on the Safari ride, where all the animals seemed to be out and some unusually active. The cheetah was walking around; the male and female lions were also, which I have never seen in all my trips. All the elephants were in one area and a couple were playing in the mud, splashing it all over themselves. Our guide was evidently not happy in her work and gave it only a token effort, but the animals more than made up for it. They are the big draw here, after all, and not the rather silly plot (although the younger children seem to like the poacher story line). We then walked over to ward Asia and got to the Flights of Wonder just as it was starting. The kids really liked the humor and enjoyed the birds flying around. By the time we left here, it was time for our 10:30 Donalds Breakfast. This was OK, but I wouldnt do it again. I think the food quality suffered somewhat from the late seating, and the character interaction was pretty lame. Donald is our favorite character, and he was very brief and not interactive at all. Goofy & Pluto did a good job, though, taking some time with the kids. I had run over to get a FP for the rapids before we went to breakfast, and we got out just in time to go on. Wade remembered this from last time as being one of his favorites, and Tyler really liked it a lot. I had forgotten how tame (and short) this ride is, especially after doing the one in Disneyland, and wish they had made it a little longer and a little more exciting. AK is our second favorite park and we intended to come back that evening for a couple of hours before closing. But Tylers fever didnt get any better and he was getting pretty droopy. We went to the Centra-Care right outside Downtown Disney, waited 2 ½ hours and $165 later were told that maybe it was viral, but heres an antibiotic just in case (later turned out he had tonsillitis). Next time, well go to the emergency room, since insurance will cover that and surely $165 is way above reasonable and customary for a doctors visit. Since Tyler was feeling bad, we ate in and then took a boat to Ft. Wilderness to buy the couple of things that the boys wanted (Donald Duck in full Indian regalia for both of them). Got a couple of movies from WL and settled in for the evening. So nice to be in living quarters rather than a hotel when you have to spend time in the room.
Tylerism: I know that this (eg. Disneyworld) is here because of a mouse and a person (When asked the persons name): I dont know, but the mouses name is Mickey.
