New Group: Me again, with DH , his DS John, DIL Judy, DGD Linda (age 11 and ready for anything); DGS1 Tommy (age 9 and not ready for anything) and DGS2 Matt (age 5 and lover of all characters)
Saturday, April 6 Our Animal Kingdom day. We were a bit late getting there, but made it in time for the 10:00 Lion King show. I was hoping DGD would get picked, but we were sitting up a little and it didnt happen. But the show, as always, was great. I have seen this so many times youd think I would be tired of it, but it just doesnt get old for me. I especially like the flying bird and the circle of life song. And the tall singer is so impressive, and the four animatronic animals, always moving and blinking their eyes in time to the music, and those guys on stilts, dancing around. The whole thing just fascinates me.
We stopped and got some coffee and goodies at Tuskers. I went over and got a FP for Safari at the same time. Big ole cinnamon rolls that were really good. While we were there, some young African men started doing an acrobatic show in the courtyard. We got up and watched some of it through the window. The most amazing thing to me was one man who laid down on his back and was able to jump rope while on his back, then did it while in a sitting position. I cant imagine how he did that. Went on to Pangani trail while waiting for our FP time. Its always new we saw things this time that I have never seen before. At the underwater viewing area for the hippo, we had always been able to see the hippo, but it was always far away and with its back turned to us. The same this time, to begin with. But then it turned toward us and come directly at us, and didnt turn until it got right up to the glass. Then when we were at the gorilla indoor viewing area with the floor to ceiling glass, the big daddy gorilla was standing up on two legs as we came into the building. There was an attendant in front of the viewing area that kept telling everyone to be very quiet, that the natives were a little restless that day. Then the gorilla walked away from us and sat on a rock at the top of a hill, with his back to us. Suddenly, he turned around and plunged down the hill, banging on the glass with his paws and again standing on two legs. It was really kind of scary. The attendant encouraged everyone to move on through, saying that the gorilla was agitated for some reason, and for us to be very quiet and PLEASE DO NOT LOOK HIM IN THE EYE OR STARE AT HIM as he takes this as a sign of aggression. At that point, the crowd was pretty thick and we tried to move out as quickly as possible. I couldnt see DGD so I went back to find her and there she was, at the railing in front of the gorilla, staring at him just as hard as she could. Everything else was pretty anti-climatic after that experience. DGS1 really liked seeing all the bugs, frogs, insects, etc.
On to the Safari ride. Jumped right on with our FPs. It was a pretty good trip. There werent many animals on the savannah, but we did see lots of elephants and the lady lion was on the rock. Theres always something to see.
We then headed over to Asia, going to the left in front on the bridge. We stopped to take a couple of pictures and the kids enjoyed beating on the drums they had set up there. Our timing was good to stop in at Flights of Wonder. DS went and got FPs for the Kali Rapids and DH went in search of ice cream for us while we waited. I told DIL when we got there to hold on to a $1 bill, just in case she might need it. Sure enough, when they asked for a volunteer with $1, she jumped up and waved it and was chosen. We were on the wrong side of her to get a good picture with the bird, but it was fun anyhow. Went to the Rapids and got right on. This was really fun, as usual. DH was in the wet seat, and got soaked through. DGS1 also got pretty wet, since he was sitting next to him. After that, we headed back to the hotel.
DH & I rested up and tried to get our stuff together for our departure (boo-hoo) tomorrow. That night, we drove over to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Artist Point. DH & I really wanted the family to see how beautiful and impressive it is. DS treated us to a great dinner at Artist Point. They left very early on Sunday morning, and we got out of there pretty early too, although we didnt try to wake up at any particular time. The trip back was a little rough, what with both of us coughing so much, but we did OK.
