Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a party of five as to where to stay the night before we check into HH. We should be arriving to the island by dinner time as long as we don't hit any traffic, so we don't mind spending a little more for a nicer hotel, but at the same time, we don't want spend $$$ just to basically eat dinner, explore a little before bed, and then go to sleep.

This isn't maybe what you are looking for but we stayed in Savannah the night before our HHI stay in April. Savannah is a wonderful city and we spent time there in the morning before heading over to HHI. We stayed at the Brice which was a great hotel.

What time of year are you going? What day of the week?
The traffic on Saturday can be pretty bad, as most homes and villas rent Saturday to Saturday.
For on island, we have stayed at the South Beach Inn (right by the Salty Dog in Sea Pines.) Prices are reasonable but rooms are a little dated. Plus, it gets you into Sea Pines for free.
Another option is to stay in Bluffton. Prices are less than the island resort hotels (Westin, Hiton, etc.)
Enjoy HHI! We leave for the island in the morning and I can't wait!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for a night before our stay last year, and it was nice for an overnight. Hampton Inns have a decent free hot breakfast, and it it is right across from the Sam's Club.
One thing that I would HIGHLY recommend is taking some time to explore Beaufort on your way down (if you're headed in from the north!)
We really want to spend more time in Beaufort next time... So you might want to just spend the night there after spending some time exploring the waterfront area.
It is such a nice area, with a great shopping area right by the waterfront!

One of the shuttle drivers at the HHI resort suggested we go there on a previous trip, but we didn't make the time to do it on that trip, so we took advantage of coming in a night early on the trip last year to spend some time there, and we loved it!

There are a few hotels around the island in the budget category that earn respectable ratings, the Red Roof Inn and the Days Inn just to name a couple!

Did you check to see if you could possibly make cash reservation at the HHI resort? Nothing may be available on points, but a cash reservation may be available!

I like the idea of going to Savannah and seeing the sights also. If you would just like to get "on island" though, and don't mind spending a little as you said...I would go with any of the following-all 4 are right on the beach also:
Marriott in Palmetto Dunes
Sonesta in Shipyard
Westin in Port Royal
Omni in Palmetto Dunes

I've stayed all all 4 several times each over the years-all nice and all would be easy to get to the Disney Resort to check in the next day.

Thanks everyone! We actually were able to work out checking into Disney that night as a room opened up on Orbitz (which is cheaper than going through Disney), so even though we're spending more than staying somewhere cheap, we figured it was worth it. :)

Speaking of HHI restaurants, Serg Restaurant Group has several restaurants on the island...some take priority seating reservations, others do not. Skullcreek does not have priority seating(asked the Manager at another Serg restaurant why some do and some don't and he responded that Skullcreek "doesn't have to because of the demand for the view". We tried a lot of the Serg group restaurants and they were all VERY GOOD! You may want to look up The Black Marlin. .outside seating is very nice with some nice views.. very nice setting outdoor music too, great seafood. One Hot Mamas(BEST BEST wings and DELICIOUS fall off the bone ribs, try terriaki wings LARGE PORTION OF RIBS, even half rack)(no priority), Marleys Island Grille(good seafood), Giuseppis(biking to Disney HHI, right by Kroger, VERY GOOD pizza..(asked for well done and thinner crust), Frankie Bones(priority), good Italian, Wise Guys(takes reservation...had reservation for "early bird...25% off, but never made it since we had to be there for 5:30(last early bird seating)..wanted to enjoy every last bit of last beach day...next time, supposedly GREAT STEAKS! ENJOY HHI and the food..SUCH great choices of restaurants!:thumbsup2

SOME RESTAURANT recommendations on another thread in case you didn't see it! Miss the GREAT SEAFOOD!:sad2: ENJOY HHI!:thumbsup2 FUN!:cheer2::jumping2:

Thanks! I did see them! We're aiming for Hudson's and Skull Creek and might check out the Salty Dog for lunch and a t-shirt. ;)

NICE! Never made it to Salty Dogs, next time!:cool1: One more lunch place just came to mind if you are in the COLIGNY beach area. Stu' s Subs !!! They bake the sub rolls there; YUM!:cheer2: The real deal :thumbsup2for subs...puts Subway "to shame"...they have a few tables outside on a small patio!

We usually stay at either the Hampton Inn on HHI or the Hampton Inn at Sun City/Bluffton. Been very pleased with both. One thing to keep in mind is the Hampton Inn actually on the island is an older one but seems to be kept in good condition. I have always been able to get very good rates at this Hampton Inn.

Ah, I saw that! My husband was interested in trying that, but I know he will be disappointed since it won't be as authentic as he's used to. :)
