Pre-2005 Ticket Question/Issues

I've read the Everything with Ticket post, along with a number of posts that sort of address my questions, but nothing that answers 100%.

My parents have a couple of old paper tickets left, from 2002. They last used them in 2010, and they were planning on using them for an upcoming trip, and then purchasing a 2 or 3 day pass for their Magic Bands. However, if they do this, if I am correct, they will only be able to get FP+ for the 2 or 3 days right? Not th length of stay?

If they have to wait till they get to the park, that would be a little bit of a bummer, as they'd lose out on FP+ selections.

The only other thing I can think to do would be to purchase a 4 day ticket, then they can convert the old tickets and save them for a future trip. Once a non-expiring ticket is converted to RFID and/or attached to MDE, does it retain the non-expiration?

Suggestions?

They should hold the old tickets for a shorter trip where they won't have to supplement them with an additional ticket purchase.

Agreed. The thing is, they don't go to the parks a ton. These tickets are 5 days from 2002, if that says anything. So, it may be a while before they would use them, if ever. And, I know they would probably rather wait till they get there and use what they already have versus get something now for Fastpass+. But, sister and I are working on Fastpass+, so not sure how things will work out.

I would suggest doing the calculation both ways and seeing the difference in cost. It might be worth hanging onto the old tickets, if for no other reason than to generate extra FPs (without using the tickets for park entry).

I'm sure you know that park days after something like 4 days are only around $15 each. If they buy a 4 day ticket, then use these old tickets for their other days, they are only getting a value of around $15/day for them.

I would agree with this...unless they plan on never going back again. They should be able to convert their old tickets to new ones (keeping the no expiration) at a ticket booth which they could then link to a MDE account to get FP's for their future trips.

I would have them pre buy those extra tickets and make FP for places like MK and Epcot. Then, on arrival day, have them switch over those tickets at DS or any theme park while you are settling in. Then, either there or with your hotel concierge make FP for say HS or AK. The fp tend to be easier to get at those parks and if they can't get the ones to match the party or ones they would like; then concierge (more likely than not) will help with some magic :)

I'm with ya entirely. Same page. I am the long gamer of my family. I will spend more now to save later on. I consider N-E tickets to be investments that will only increase their value. But, my folks are more "Bird in the hand" people. Then, they'll cross another bridge when they come to it.

Yeah, I think this is probably the way they are leaning. I think AK may be the only one we'll have to worry about, so we'll see.

The only additional thing that is bugging me is the old tickets are park hoppers, and most of our days will be one park only days. Hate to waste a hopper like that, ya know?

I wish I knew how to put a photo on here. We converted tix my in laws had saved from 1987!! No kidding. We had then put on a plastic card while we were there last year. Then I was able to add to MDE so we can get FP for our upcoming trip.

Sorry to bump an almost year old thread, but this almost answers my question. My sisters and I are going to Epcot for one day in December. One of us has a non expiring ticket from 2000. In order to make advanced FPs we will all buy our one day tickets online. I was hoping to make things easier my sister could convert that old ticket to an RFID plastic ticket at guest services and save it for another time and use the newly purchased ticket. Has anyone done this lately? Can that converted ticket be assigned to anyone on MDE? On the other hand, maybe it would be better to use the converted ticket and save the new one-if so, I'm thinking the FPs would still be saved no matter which ticket is used?

1. Yes. That'll work.
2. Yes.
3. Either way works.
(The "old" ticket will continue to not have an expiration date, while the new ticket
will expire after Dec. 31, 2018.)
4. Booked FPs for "person X," will work for "person X," regardless of
which ticket is being used by "person X" at the gate.
