Praying for a Fare War . . . or a Good Ding!

I'm a newbie to all this and didn't realize the good SW fares would be snatched up so quickly. . . and now, after watching fares closely for almost 3 weeks now I'm starting to worry. They seem to be inching up. I need some reassurance and/or advice.

We are planning to head down on spring break 4/9 to 4/14. We live in Washington DC so we could fly BWI, Reagan, or Dulles to MCO. Right now, to get anything decent (which, for me, means earlier than 3 pm on the departure and later than 6 pm on the return, and nonstop both up and down), I'm looking at around $1,500 for the 4 of us. Ouch!

Should I just to buy the refundable anytime SW fares at $372 RT per person and just sit and wait for a ding? Should I reschedule our trip?

DH doesn't want to drive or do the autotrain.

Anyone else near DC in the same boat? What are you doing?

Thanks . . .

Don't hold your breath for a good fair during spring break. I'm in the same boat. Right now we're looking at driving and that doesn't excite me either.

If you want some more good news, go check out the rental car rates for that week. :sad1:

Yikes, you will have a hard time finding a good deal. Trying like orbitz or another site like that. Sometimes SWA isnt always the cheapest. Unforturnately the closer you get to a trip the more prices will be unless there is a lot of room or some big special goes up which will be rare this time of the year. Good Luck!

With the airlines reducing capacity, its going to be a little harder to find good airfare.

Thanks to those who responded. I finally bit the bullet last night and bought 4 RT non-stop from BWI to MCO at (gulp) $1548 on Southwest. I feel like its absolutely nuts to pay $368 RT when in the past we've easily gotten $170. But what can you do. I don't want to miss our long-anticipated spring break trip. And yes, I've been all over kayak.com, sidestep, travelocity, etc. etc. And driving ain't happening! :)

Anwyay, at least the fares are refundable . . . so let's hope for a fare war (or, as noted, a great ding!).
