Prayers from my dear friends. I am a secretary for a youth minister. He as been sick for a few weeks and was put in the hospital last night. Today they found a LARGE mass in his abdomen. Inoperable. He has an 18 year old and a 6 year old. I just found out. His wife is a dear friend of mine.

Oh my goodness. Prayers on the way .... I hope he can get a second opinion or they can figure out some way to treat it. Barring that, God absolutely works miracles every day! Please keep us updated.

I'm so sorry! I'll definitely pray for him & his family! And you! Keep up updated, okay?

Please keep us posted when you can.

blessings to the whole family!

Judy

Will definitely add him and his family to my prayer list. Is it possible for you to post a first name? If you'd rather not, that's fine.

Thank you all. I just spoke with his wife, did I mention that she is another secretary here. She, like most people would be, has good & bad moments. When I spoke with her, it was a bad moment. I'm going to try to have lunch with her. The hospital is right across the street from our church. They are going to do a colonoscopy tomorrow to see the extent.

Prayers are going out to him and his family. Angel

Ok, we have had lots of ups and downs. Now we are thinking it's colon cancer that has spread to the other organs and lymph nodes. He wen't home over the weekend until they decide what treatment they can do. Right now I'm trying to put together a calendar to organize all of the people who want to bring them dinner. I want to give them a map and some reminders like, place everything in disposable containers, so they don't have to wash or return dishes. Can you help me come up with some other helpful hints? We are having a prayer service for them tonight and we need to hand it out tonight.

Thoughts and prayers sent to him and his family.

I would also see folks who would be willling to:
do the yard work, clean the house, watch the kids, purchase stamps & t/y notes, watch the kids, take the kids to a movie, have their kids over to your house for a break from the stress, buy phone cards, clean the fridge.

Also, I gave a calendar to everyone who was willing to make a meal. It had everyone's phone # on it. This helps if the family needs to be away from the home or the meal should be frozen as the fridge might still be full. Try to make lots of comfort food. I would also ask what foods the kids love and try to have that made at least 1 time a week.

hth,

still praying!

Judy

Our church maintenence crew is going to take care of the yard so that's taken care of. Their 18 year old helps with the 6 year old a lot and he can go to the day care here if he needs to. But, I thought about moms of kids his age, if they are doing something special, like going to the beach, park, or movies, they could bring him along.
I think I will include that they will have paper goods.
Great ideas, keep them coming.

How do you nicely say, Drop your food and go! :rotfl2: Does Don't Stay too long sound rough?

sconnel - That is so nice of you! As for how to word, I think I'd say something like "Please keep in mind that ___ needs rest and family time right now. Please refrain from making them feel like they must entertain you." Something like that should be a good reminder.

When I was going through this with my Mom, I was sooooo grateful for people to offer to watch my kids (then 2 and 4). I would try to line up times for the 6 year old to be watched by someone, giving the 18 year old time to spend precious time with his/her Father. I will keep praying!!!!! My heart goes out the your friends (and you). You are doing great things already and making it easier for the family. BLess you!!

that would be perfectly acceptable to say!

IF folks want to do more tangible things, ask them to wash & clean their cars, pick up Rx or food from the grocery store.

hth,
still prayin'

I'm running the prayer guides for tonight. I'll let you know how things go. Thanks! You guys are the best!

I tried to think of all the things we really needed/people brought when my dad was at home, very ill with cancer. We had lots of company so all of the paper goods came in handy. Also things like toilet paper, paper towels and coffee (I know my entire family are coffee drinkers and people kept bringing those big red folger's tubs of coffee--we actually drank all of it!)

and soda pop. We had lots of that, and drank it all too.

Some other things that came to mind: pet food if they have pets or someone to feed/walk the pets

I know one of the gladware type companies has disposable dishes you can bake in.

Kleenex

We had a nice notebook and pen to keep a list of the things people brought to write thank you notes later

Maybe someone would be willing to bring them movies or books from the library and then return them when they are due?

You are definitely on the right track. And don't forget the 18yr old and 6 yr old-- things they like to do, eat, etc...This was such a hard time on my 11yr old daughter and 18 yr old nephew (who lived with the grandparents at the time)

If I think of anything else tonight, I'll add another post. Prayers are going their way.
