We lost my dad to this same cancer a month ago. His was stage 4 when they found it and he chose not to attempt the surgery. If you have any questions about his treatment feel free to pm me. You and your family will be in my prayers.
From what I've read about this cancer the survival rates are very very low since it isn't usually caught until the later stages. I think (based on my internet M.D.) he is probably in Stage III at this point. He has a PET Scan today at 10:30 and an appointment with an oncologist tomorrow. We will know more then.
As for DD, I did end up telling her when I got home. (She will be 14 in 3 weeks, BTW.) I told her that pappy is sick and has cancer but that's all we know at this point. I obviously didn't give her survival rates and the grim outlook on this but I didn't want her to be blindsided if it turns out he has months to live. She actually had to ask what cancer is which is a good thing, I guess.
Anyway, thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. I need to stay strong for my mom and my DD.
