Prayers needed please/ update 1/12

Prayers and Pixie Dust from GA. I know this will be a hard start to 2009. Please let me know if you need anything.

Nancy- please pass on my information as I'm here in GA and can help out if need be.

S :)

I sure will.. if she heads that way.. I will give her the info...and I'll txt you to let you know too!!!!

Hey, I was just thinking about you the other day!!! We were talking about a trip South this summer!!! :)

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I will certainly remember you, your DH and your MIL in my prayers this evening. I will especially remember your need for strength and guidance for your DH's sake. It is hard to be the "rock" when a strong spouse needs somewhere to lean. I'm sure you will do your very best and your DH will so much appreciate your support............P

Prayers of strength and wisdom coming your way, Buffy!
I've got relatives in Georgia, so keep that in mind if need be.

So very sorry to hear this BAMB! Many prayers to you, DH, the kids and MIL.

Buffy, my prayers are with you and Ray at this time. My God grant you the strength to help Ray through this.

I'm so sorry to hear about this and will add you to my prayers.

Thanks for all the prayers we sure do need them. We took the kids to say their goodbyes yesterday. She was alert but really weak. She is refusing all food and meds, only taking water when needed.
I have started researching airlines that will fly her home when the time comes. I can't believe how much funerals cost, it's crazy.

Ray is doing ok, had a rough night last night. He's afraid she will die alone and he doesn't want that so we might be taking turns sitting with her.

I will keep you posted as things progress.

Mickeyteacher, I will let you know if we come down. We are probably going to have the funeral at Marietta National Cemetery.

I think when my Grandma died, she flew back to Wisconsin on Northwest. We joked about her flying that route one last time, as it was the one she used to fly to come visit us when she still lived in Milwaukee. I think my parents had other choices, but that was the one that seemed the most fitting.

:grouphug: Buffy, I really know what you are going through. You are in my thoughts

Buffy - I will keep you in my thoughts:hug:

Buffy, I'm so sorry. Hugs to all of you.

Need some advice:

It is so confusing as to what I need to do and when.
I have access to MIL's checking account (which I don't think I can close without a death certificate right), but I'm not sure what to do with her Social Security check for January. Is it for the month of January or the month of December? Do I need to pay back a prorated amount depending on when she passes?
I'm pretty sure she has a will but we can't find it. Not that she owns any property so even without the will probate shouldn't be too huge of an issue, at least not here in CT.

I don't know what to do about her credit card though. There is no money in the estate, she cashed out her life insurance policies ages ago. I suppose the CC company could sue the estate but there is no money. What little money she has in the bank I was going to pull out for funeral costs.
Would we be responsible for her Credit Card?? My name is not on the card or the phone bill, just on her checking account. She maybe has $800 in it after I pay the rent for January, which I need to do in order to buy myself time to clear out the apartment.
Ray and I are going to start clearing out her apartment this weekend, 90% will go to goodwill or the dump. She smoked for so many years everything smells horrendous. I don't even know if I should donate her clothes, they smell so bad. No amount of washing will take the smell out.

I can get Salvation Army to come pick up the big things like her couch right? Or should we dump it due to the smell?

I wish I had the answers..but I don't think they could close out Pap's stuff w/o the death certificate...

As far as closing out the checking account either party on the account can close it out so if your name is on the account you can close it out. Also it is not part of her estate if your name is on it.

Would we be responsible for her Credit Card?? I am fairly certain they cannot ask anyone to pay the card other than her estate which as you said has no money

My name is not on the card or the phone bill, just on her checking account. She maybe has $800 in it after I pay the rent for January, which I need to do in order to buy myself time to clear out the apartment. go ahead and pay the rent now so it will be out of the account, you can also transfer anything in it into one of your accounts if you want to do so

Call Salvation Army or the Vetnam Vets (they also pick up) and ask them if they want it.

I'm 99.99% sure that the social security check is for January - they give you the money ahead of time, so yes, you will have to pay back a prorated amount for the rest of the month after she passes.

So sorry to hear this Buffy!! I know it is hard, thoughts for you and your family.
