I want to thank EACH and EVERY ONE OF YOU for your thoughts, prayers and
Seems they have helped my mom They did another Cat Scan this morning and she has had no "real significant" bleeding overnight. Of course, tthat is not to say that there is no more bleeding in the brain, just that it has slowed down CONSIDERABLY
They are using 2 medications to get her blood pressure under control and when Dad left this morning, it was down to 152/87 ... which is a HUGE improvement.
As far as surgery to repair the eye orbit, that will have to wait for the swelling to go down. My dad said that on the right side of my mom's face, from below the cheek to just above her eyebrow, she looks as though someone took a baseball bat to her face. There is THAT much swelling
But, if all your prayers pulled her through the night and saved her from brain surgery, I know that you can help pull her through the rest of the way.
I know it is not over yet but that is FANTASTIC news Tigger Hope she continues to improve and the swelling goes down fast. Keep getting well yourself too so you can go be with her! My thoughts will continue going out to you until both you and your mom are home safe and sound
Tigger, I'm so glad you received some good news. Continued prayers (((HUGS))) and pixie dust for your mom. My thoughts and prayers are of course also with you and hope you feel better soon.
Well, we have some good news and a little bad news. I always start with the good, as it seems to lessen the bad
Anyway, the nurse was feeding Mom some Jello yesterday afternoon, as they have both her arms tied down because of all the IVs and other stuff in them. If she moves them too much, Dad said it sets off a whole bunch of bells and whistles.
The "hospitalist", just a Dr who sees patients when the patient's own Dr does come to the hospital, was pleased with mom's 3rd Cat Scan. He is more concerned about her blood pressure being too high. They are getting it down with a balance of 2 different medications.
Bad news time ... apparently there is a Dr at all times in the ICU and he wanted another Cat Scan done, because *he* was concerned with the 3rd scan. Seems *he* thinks that the "minimal" bleeding is more than he likes. Then he turned to my Dad and said, "She's going to be here quite awhile!" Personally, I do not think it was his place to say that to my dad, as he is not my mom's Dr and it really is none of his business. My mom has a neurologist/neurosurgeon who is watching the bleeding in her brain.
I guess I am a little peeved at this DR in the ICU for saying stuff to my dad, when it really is none of his business. I know my dad already feels guilty about this whole thing, because he left her alone to go to the store. But, he should also KNOW that mom has been falling quite a bit lately. Luckily, dad has always been right behind her and had a firm grip on her clothing.
Again, thank you soooooooo very much for your continued prayers, thiughts,
After my extensive stay in the hospital and then getting a few days rest, I am home just for tonight and will go back down to my parents tomorrow. Here is the scoop on my mom:
She has been out of ICU for about 8 days now and the bleeding she had in the brain, right side, is dissolving, but her cat scan the other day showed some fluid on the *left* side of the brain now. Not sure what that means or even why, but we did leave a message for the Neurosurgeon to call so we could ask questions and get answers. Hopefully, he called my dad this afternoon and I will get some answers when I go back tomorrow.
Mom is in congestive heart failure She has quite a lot of fluid around the heart and lungs, however they did start her on Lasix to try and help get rid of the fluid. She had some irregular heart rhythm and chest pain on Tuesday so they did put a Nitroglycerin patch on her. But ...... the Dr was concerned enough to ask if she had a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) on file and she said "yes, she does."
Now, this is the BIGGIE .... Apparently she may have a bowel obstruction or an illieus (intestines are asleep), what I had when I was in the hospital, and the surgeon is giving her until Monday to see if it clears and then if not, he wants to operate !!! With her emphysema alone, my mom IS NOT a candidate for surgery. Pile on the congestive heart failure, problems with a valve in her heart, and her overall weakness and as much as I *HATE* to say it, but she would not make it through the surgery I am trying to get the "hospitalist" to order an Upper GI with a Small Bowel follow through to *ABSOLUTELY* verify whether there is an obstruction or not before the surgeon just decides to operate because he *thinks* she may have one.
I need to get this information ASAP, so I can have my brother get his tush out here from Denver. I am doing my best to get the rest that *I* need, but the worry seems to be taking over
All prayers, thoughts, good wishes and pixie dust are MUCH NEEDED and VERY MUCH appreciated Will do my best to keep this updated and hopefully see a few of you on VMK, when I can sneak a break in
Tigger, remembering you and your mom in my prayers and sending you lots of pirate hugs ( since gnome got mermaids ) and lots of friendly caring hugs as well. Hang in there!
