While she was visiting her Grandson and Great-grandson in South Carolina for Thanksgiving, Karen’s mom was admitted to the hospital with what started as kidney stone. After having surgery to have a stent put in the she was released. The stent was put in to help get things flowing and they decided to let nature take its course and let the stone pass on its own. On their way home to NJ on Sunday she got worse and was admitted back into the hospital. The local hospital decided she was better off if they transferred her to a bigger hospital in Columbia, SC. They really did not have what was needed to properly treat her.
Karen & I left NJ late Sunday night and drove straight through to SC. We arrived at the hospital at 9:30am.

It seems that Marlene has an infection that stemmed from the kidney stone (that she did pass). The infection spread to her blood. Between the infection and being dehydrated her kidneys have failed and she is going to need temporary dialysis until her kidneys function again on their own. To top it all off she also has pneumonia as well as a few other things.
We are not sure how long she will be in the hospital. Karen and her father will be staying here until she comes home. I am heading home in a few hours. Unfortunately, between work and the fact that we have JD’s christening this weekend I have to get back. Karen is flying back to NJ for the christening on Friday night and then heading back to SC on Sunday.
What a fun week it has been! I’ll keep you all posted.

Sending lots of PD and prayers for a quick recovery and hugs to the family in these tough times.

Thank you for the prayers and pixie dust. Not only is it greatly appreciated but is working! As each day passes Karen’s mom is slowly getting better.

We still do not know when she is getting out but we are hoping that it will be sooner than later.

Thank you all!

I'll keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad to read your update on her improving. Hope Karen and everyone is taking care of themselves during this. Hope to hear ASAP that Karen's Mom is doing even better.

 to you guys.

Good to hear she's improving, still keeping you guys all in my thoughts

John -

I am adding you and Karen and her mom to my prayers. I will keep checking back to read about her recovery. What a scary thing to have to go through. I hope she gets well soon.

Glad to hear things are improving  make sure Karen is taking care of herself too, this stuff takes a toll on everyone, you are all in my thoughts.

John, I'm sorry to hear this, will definately send up some prayers for her.:goodvibes

Thank you all so much for the good thoughts, prayers, & pd. I can't tell you how much we appreciate them. I have the laptop with me & have been able to get connected to the hospital wireless. It is a sporadic connection so it comes & goes. My mom is still in the hospital but is continuing to improve. Hopefully she will be out of here in another day to 2. My dad & I are still living out of a hotel, but I did get to fly home very briefly (got home late Fri night & flew back Sun morning) for JD's (grandson) Christening on Saturday. Once my mom is out of the hospital, we will stay in the hotel a couple of days to make sure she is ok & give her a chance to get some strength back before taking on the 11-13 hr drive home.

I'll check in again when I can. Thank you again for the prayers. Please keep them coming.

Karen - Glad to hear your mom's improving! I'll be keeping her and your family in my thoughts.

I don't know how I missed this the first time around. I'm glad to hear things are improving and am sending prayers your way!
