My neice, age 8, was admitted to the hospital today. Apparently she fell before the school break but didn't say anything. She was actually here for 4 days over Christmas. She never complained about any pain or anything. Well apparently there was something lodged in her knee and it became infected. Her mom noticed this yesterday when K finally said her knee hurt. It had puss in it so she cleaned it up really good. Well last night they noticed a red line so they took her to the ER. There was a car accident that came in at the same time and no one really thought too much about K's knee. Well when the Dr came in he was livid that the nurses hadn't recognized how bad the infection was. (He was heard yelling at them outside the room.) K was immediately given an IV antibiotic and she had an allergic reactoin to it. So another course of treatment was given. She is now being tested for something I can't pronounce, let alone try to spell. There is a possibility that she could lose part of her leg because of all this! Especially if they can't get the infection under control. All this because of a knee scrape at school just before Christmas.
I kid you not this child never once complained while she was here of any pain or limped or anything. Her dad is a fireman and thinks she is the greatest and is just beside himself right now. I guess he hasn't left the hospital yet. Please send prayers and pixie dust her way. Thanks!
