Hi everyone! We just got a call from my FIL that they have received a liver for my MIL. Her transplant surgery is in just a few hours and we are heading over to the hospital soon. It's quite a surprise to us that she got assigned a liver so soon as she has only been on the transplant waiting list for a few days and also has a rare blood type. But, she has been quite sick lately.

I'm asking for prayers. She is older and has been sick, and we just want her to make it through the surgery okay. She and FIL have WDW annual passes and she has not been able to go for awhile now. She has been dreaming about parks for so long. We just want her to get well so she can enjoy the Disney magic again. So, please say a little prayer for her if you can. Thank you.

Your MIL and your family are in my prayers!

I'll keep your family in my prayers.

Thank you everyone who posted, and those who took the time to read this. We're heading to the hospital now. Hopefully all will be well and she will be on her way to recovery tonight!

Prayers for your family, and the donor's family as well.

Please keep us posted!!

I can understand ALL the emotions you and your family are going through right now.

My Dad had a kidney transplant one year ago at the age of 79!! We sang Happy Birthday to the kidney at Thanksgiving this year and also sent prayers to the donor's family.

He is doing fantastic!!! He had quite a difficult time with the wound healing but the kidney has been functioning without problem since he got it. The medication regime is tough at first and I spent quite a bit of time putting Dad's meds together for him. We had to go back to the hospital weekly for blood work and then monthly!! We just went last week and do not have to return until April 2009. He will have blood work done every 6 weeks until then but we don't have to see the doctor unless he is feeling under the weather or anything that is causing concern!!

The first 6 months are tough on the family but it is such a short time compared to dialysis 3 times per week!!! At first, my Dad said dialysis was easier and I guess that is a normal reaction.

The meds do make them moody!!! Just remember............it is the meds!! I have to remind Dad times that he get's a little anxious........and he needs to relax for ALL of our sakes!!! LOL!!

Best of luck...........feel free to PM me if you have any questions about what to expect. I was lucky to have another DVC member from Germany (we see them every 2 years at OKW0 that had had a kidney transplant and I was able to email them my many questions and concerns. It was good to know what other's have experienced and help us out quite a bit!!! So, feel free and GOOD LUCK.......this is fantastic news!!! I may not be able to answer much on a liver transplant but the emotional aspect, I am sure, is very similar!!!

I will say a prayer for your MIL and entire family right now.

Dear LeeLee, this thread sure has touched me deeply. Many Prayer's are being said for your dear Mother-In-law, and your entire family! :grouphug: :grouphug: Many here on the DIS followed me through my rare transplant. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Please don't take your organs to Heaven...
Heaven knows we need them here!

I prayed for her.

I hope her surgery is successful and that she has a quick recovery.

I hope all goes well and that your ILs will be able to enjoy the Disney magic for many more times. Please keep us posted.

I hope she sails through the surgery and is soon back home feeling better than she has in a long time and visiting WDW again.
