We have been planning the ultimate Disney vacation for many months now and look forward to SO much. We went in Feb 11' and I got an insane stomach virus and my wife got horrible indigestion from Peco Bills foul burger which made our trip pretty rough. Our honeymoon in 2010 was highlighted by my wife having a raging sore throat that had us driving all over central florida looking for medical help.

This year, we have 7 nights at a 1 BD deluxe booked at bonnet creek, park to park universal tickets, seaworld tickets, and have a full day planned for magic kingdom, epcot, and DHS. Lots of great ADRs. Got an amazing deal on our flight etc. etc.

We leave Saturday, but for about 10 days now my wife has developed a terrible itchy rash that is all over her body and makes her miserable. Not even a steroid shot and anti-histamines relieve it. I'm reading that being in the heat can make things worse for her.

So now we are praying for a miracle that this will clear up by saturday, otherwise it's the third year in a row one of us will be feeling like crap on our disney vacation.

What would be your strategy for dealing with this? It's too late to reschedule our trip.

Do you know what is causing it? We have LOTS of allergies in our house, and deal with this quite often. Could it be that she changed some product she uses and the new one doesn't agree with her. Have you changed laundry soap, body wash, shampoo ect? It could be a cleaning product, perfume, anything that is out of the normal routine. I would stop using anything that was changed in the week before she got the rash and see if it clears up. Ours will within a day or so of removing the offending product. I very seldom change anything I know works unless we are forced to.

I agree. Allergies can be really intense. What did the doctor think it could be? Does she have any other symptons(fever, headache, upset stomach etc)?

We've changed to free and clear hypoallergenic everything and rewashed all clothes and bedding etc. Went to the doctor and they didn't know what it was so they gave her a steroid shot to reduce inflammation and swelling. We are seeing a dermatologist tomorrow.

From everything I can see it looks like Pitryriasis Rosea which may be caused by a virus but it actually is an affliction with an unknown cause that usually lasts 4-6 weeks. There's no "cure" only treating the symptoms until it spontaneously goes away.

This is why I'm asking for prayer, since what we need is a miracle by Saturday. So discouraged and so bummed out right now.

If the rash is more painful than itchy, it's probably shingles.

whatever it is I'm certain everything will be fine.

Sending prayers and pixie dust your way. The last time we where in Disney (6 years ago) all of us ended up with the flu and stuck in the room most of the time. We are heading back in May for are dream trip.

Does this only happen when you plan a trip to WDW? If so I would stop going to Disney World. Could be the stress of wanting a perfect Disney vacation, and not getting it.:3dglasses

aw man...I get this sometimes, and it is rough. Oddly enough, the last time I got it my mom had brought home Mickey soaps, and guess what I had an allergic reaction to? I had never been to Disney, and it was my mom and dad's test trip for practice before we were set to go. I was freaking out. Who wants to be allergic to Mickey Mouse??? Hope she feels better. P.S. I found a boar's hair round brush is great for scratching itches!!!

Hope she feels better soon!
Maybe it is just her nerves from worrying about getting sick on vacation!
Have a great trip....sending you some Pixie Dust. pixiedust:

OP...my adult DD was diagnosed (finally) by a dermatologist with something similar. She has a virus!!!!!! She was miserable--said the rash hurt more than chicken pox and she had a doozy of a case of CP when she was in high school. The virus isn't shingles but has a gosh awful long name that I forget.
Luckily, with the shot and meds, she's much better and the rash is fading.

The first doctor she saw told her she had ringworm!!!:confused3. She's a nurse and knew that wasn't it but couldn't figure it out.

Hope your DW has a speedy recovery and you enjoy your vacation.:wizard:

I have Pitryriasis Rosea...first had it when I was 22; once you get it, it can come back. Mine flares up when I am stressed or run down. It is an auto immune disorder. Did the rash start with the typical "herald patch"? Tell your spouse to watch out for Lipomas next...a year after my first PR bout, I started developing Lipomas (non-malignant tumors)...alot of people who have had PR develop Lipomas (no relation between the two, but in many Lipoma groups, I have heard people say this). Lipomas SUCK.

and do not feel too bummed...there are way, way more sucky things in life. Be happy for the blessings you do have.

I am just getting over Pityriasis Rosea...... as Kathie859 stated (she's my mom:) I was miserable in the beginning. The steroid shot will begin to improve things considerably within about three days. The rash will still be present, but the itching was much more tolerable. Tell her to use Aveeno skin relief body wash and Gold Bond medicated powder (in the greenish colored bottle.) Also, I sprayed my body with Benadryl spray. I did not find that oral benadryl did much for me alone, but combined with the other remedies I was able to finally sleep through the night. I hated lotions because I felt too "moist." Heat will make it worse. Take Claritin in the morning. Good luck!!!

I hope you got to go on the trip. Sounds like hives. Been there done that - took steroids, shots, every antihistamine you can think of...one day they left all at once after taking a perscription antihistmaine. NOTHING else worked. It was awful and heat would have made it worse yet.

I had something similar and it turned out it was a reaction to aspartame. I had started drinking crystal light every day and my body couldnt handle it. I had a extremely itchy rash, head to toe. The only reason we found out what it was, was that I was drinking crystal light in the doctor's office and a nurse but 2 and 2 together and ask the doctor to test me for aspartame poisoning. Which came back positive...the rash went away within hours of me stopping drinking it!

there are certain free and clear products that i can not use but others that i can. did bath soap or wash change formula? some of my worse reactions come from body wash.

My brother-in-law had a terrible case of hives back in January. He was absolutely miserable for about a week before all the meds finally kicked in and started to beat it back. He was at the ER twice because he couldn't breathe well, went to an allergist several times and his regular doctor several times. At one point, he was taking steroids (prednisone), Benadryl, Zyrtec, Singulair and Xanax (helps with itching, apparently). The allergist concluded it was some sort of virus that manifested itself through an allergic reaction. After about 2 weeks, he finally felt decent again. Hope your wife is feeling better!

Xanax (helps with itching, apparently).

I didn't know this either until this spring. Apparently it works on a different receptor than the other antihistamines. My son had terrible hives I tried treating with zytrec and benadryl. They went away overnight once we started the Xanax. Who knew?
