Having only stayed at the GC out in DL it looks as if I will be using points for either DL or PPH. There is a 39 point difference between the two.

Which would you choose and why? So I have a frame of reference, which would you compare each of these to at WDW, value, moderate, or deluxe?

Thanks!

I'm not that familiar with WDW. I've stayed a lot at DLH, a few times at GCH, and once at PPH (so long ago it was before DCA).

I would definitely rank the Disneyland Hotel as a deluxe. I love this place. It's my go to hotel at Disneyland. It has more of a magical Disney feel to it to me. It's near the monorail which helps coming back when you are tired in the middle or the end of the day and has decent sized rooms which I think were all renovated recently. It's a bit of walk to the parks, maybe 10 minutes, but not too bad. The pool area is fantastic and recently remodeled. Valet parking gets you in and out fast for those offsite meals when you want some non park food.

PPH, I stayed there once before DCA was there because it was cheaper than the other onsite hotels and I have not been back. It's probably changed a lot since then so maybe it's better? It's a long way from DL and back in the old days it just didn't have that Disney feel to it. Still walking distance but far. When I stayed there they had tram in the back that would drive guests to DL and back (I don't think they have it anymore, you're on your own for walking). That might give you an idea of how far the walk is. I hear you can get some rooms with good views of DCA which would be nice. If budget were my biggest consideration I would stay here again if onsite hotel benefits were important to me. If your family members are late risers and don't do early entry I might pick an offsite hotel with a shuttle over PPH.

GCH is great for access to the parks, although a lot of rooms seem to be a long walk from the entrance, and the lobby is amazing (reminds of the AKL lobby) but it's more expensive and the rooms are smaller. I can deal with the smaller rooms but I felt the price premium before Cars Land came along was difficult to justify. Now that Cars Land is there I feel the price premium might be worth it more often for the close location but I still like the DLH overall better. I feel at home at the DLH. I don't get that feeling at the GCH.

I've stayed at both and would call both Deluxe. Values and moderates have outside room entrances. Both DLH and PPH are towers and deluxe room sizes. Most rooms have daybeds (but not all). I love the park view at PPH. DLH recently renovated their rooms and the fireworks headboard is cool. I found DLH very spread out, we were in the tower closest to PPH, the lobby seemed far away.

When we've stayed at PPH, we typically cut through GCH to get to the parks. At DL, we go through Downtown Disney.

I don't know which views you have reflected in your points but I would take the PPH park view.

I would say PPH is more close to the moderates, but you can get a great view of the theme parks (as seen in the pick above).
DLH is closer to a Deluxe but maybe not quite as resort-like and themed as the Deluxe's at WDW.

If I were using my points I would go for the PPH, we loved it there, had a theme park view room and the walk across the street and through the GCH every morning was a lot quicker than coming through DTD from the DLH.

39 points is an extra night on your next vacation!

We doing a standard night at the DLH. I am not a fan of the PPH, too far, not Disney enough. I think DVC has spoiled me.

We found PPH to be a shorter walk to the parks than DLH. When cutting through the GCH it cut a few minutes off our walk from when we tried walking through DTD to the DLH entrance.

I haven't stayed at DLH but I love the pictures of the rooms online. We did stay at PPH and absolutely LOVED it. Wish we could afford to stay there every trip.

If the monorail is running and you don't mind starting or ending your day in Tomorrowland, you can also cut through the PPH parking lot, into DTD right next to the Lego store, which is directly across the way from the Monorail.

Thanks for the advice folks! I had been kind of hearing some negative regarding PPH and it's good to know that there are quite a bit of positives out there.

Add me to the PP vote. It is actually a shorter walk than DLH when you use the shortcut through GCH, and the rooms are bigger. I like to get as much use as possible out of my DVC points, so for me, it would be a no brainer. That could be another night or two in a WDW villa or $390 cash if you sold to David's.

I am another who loves Paradise Pier. First visit was last February. Best trip ever. Had a view room . Service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place. Going again first week of March. Can't wait.

I LOVE PP! It's not any further to walk, just cross the street and cut through the Grand. Especially if you're going to CaAdv. I haven't seen the renovated rooms in the DLH, but I am not a fan of the style they've done the lobby. I don't think you'll regret either one you choose.

We haven't been to the PPH since they did the room refurbs. I don't like taking the Monorail into Disneyland, I need to go through the main gates. :cloud9: I'm goofy like that. Now I love using the short cut into DCA via the GCV but only when I'm staying there, otherwise I enjoy the main gate entrance which I know seems so weird.

I think you mean the DLH when mentioning the room refurbs.

But as for which gates to use at the parks we used the main gates as well (I still have never been on the monorail). I timed our walk from PPH front door to the security gate before getting to the DL main gate and then later when we wanted to look at the DLH for future reference (like when we have enough money in the budget to stay there) we timed ourselves from security to the DLH entrance and I think we were about 2 min slower to the DLH entrance than what it took us from PPH to security. It was May so I forget the exact times it took us but I remember it being faster from/ to PPH.

We did use the entrance from GCH when we went to DCA as they still had the construction going on the front entrance when we stayed at PPH. The part that sold me the most was when I rode GRR, got soaked and was able to walk to PPH, change and then get back to the parks in what seemed like no time. Can't imagine how nice that would be while actually staying at the GCH.

I thought I read the PPH refurbed too? Maybe they just got new decor? :confused3 I read so much it's highly possible I'm totally confused. :rotfl:

That's one of my favorites; getting soaked on GRR and running right up to the villa to change. One night the kids rode over and over until they were drenched from head to toe. It was so nice to be able to send them up to change. :thumbsup2

The PPH received a limited refurb in 2011 ( if I remember correctly). They replaced linens, carpet, drapes, etc. So not a full blown renovation, but a facelift. :).

Oh I had no idea. I never saw it before the refurb so had no clue they had even done one.

I stayed at the PPH last Feb and we really quite liked it. So much that for our trip this year, we are going to stay there again!

Being DVC owners we usually stay at the VGC (and usually stay at the BW or BC when visiting WDW), and although it is not as 'luxurious' we really like it.

Since the rest of our traveling group doesn't have the luxury of being able to stay where ever regardless of price (since we use points and we have enough points to cover a stay at any of the DL hotels) we all agreed on PPH.

It may not be as grandly themed as the DLH, but I found VGC to be somewhat lacking in Disney theming. But this is totally fine with us, we get more than enough theming being just a few minutes walk from the park.

I say if you have the points and don't a further walk then try the DLH. But if you want to conserve points to lengthen your stay then don't hesitate with PPH.
