I am hoping some of you can help me out. After a lot of debate, my family had decided on the paradise pier hotel with theme park view and club privileges. Unfortunately they have just announced the pools at Pph will be closed May 9-27. Our trip is May 24 - 29th. We have a very good military rate and the only other military rate during our dates is for DLH premier room no club privileges. This also adds $250 more. I hate to pay more and lose club. It will be me, DH, DS 11, and DD9. We have been to WDW several times but not DL. We probably won't use the pool a ton but we do enjoy afternoon breaks. So, here is my question:

How big a deal will it be to walk to DLH or GC to use their pools? I am assuming we will have pool privileges at at least one of these. Since I have never been to DL I can't picture how close these hotels are and if we want to make that walk in swimsuits. They don't look far apart on google earth but thought I would ask for first hand knowledge.

I know DLH pools were closed earlier this year and just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience with pool hopping when your hotel pools are closed. Thanks for any insights!

I've never pool hopped but I can assure you the PPH and DLH are pretty close to each other and I don't believe that you have to cross any "main" roads where there is a lot of traffic aka gawkers!

If your pool is closed, they will definitely let you use one of the others. My guess is the Grand is closer. You just cross the street at the crosswalk and there you are. The Disneyland Hotel is pretty close too. You don't have to cross the street. You exit at the back of PPH and follow the path over to the DLH. Actually now that I think about it, I bet the pools of each are about the same distance. I would say 5-10 minute walk!

Consider yourself lucky...the PPH pool is very just "meh'. You should be abel to use either the GHC or the DLH pool...and both are a very short walk from the PPH. Usually you are stuck at your pool with no pool hopping privileges, but you now get upgraded pools without paying the upgraded hotel prices!

I agree with @ParkHopper1, you are getting the best of both worlds, a reduced price and the use of the nicer pools! I would definitely take advantage of the DLH waterslides, your kids will LOVE them!! (and the walk is not far at all, 5min, max)

When we were at PPH during a pool-closure time, we were allowed to use DLH's pool. It wasn't a choice, that was ALL that was allowed.

I wouldn't walk over in swimsuits. You're walking through parking areas and such. Coverups at the very least, IMO.

That was our experience, too.

In our case we were very happy with the closure. During our 3 day stay, we used the PPH pool for the first two days, and the Disneyland Hotel pool for the past day. The PPH and waterslide are pretty good, but the Disneyland Hotel pools and slides are definitely better. The walk was no big deal.

Oh no - that is exactly when we will be there as well! Where do I find the closure info? (Thanks for pointing this out!)

A friend of mine told me it is now on the Disney Travel Agent site and listed as May 9-27th. On another thread, someone mentioned that they called the hotel directly and were also given those same dates.

Thank you all for your input! I am glad to hear that the walk to whichever pool we are allowed to use is pretty easy. It isn't a huge deal really since my children are now 9 and 11. I don't think that I would want to walk to another hotel with toddlers, but it isn't too hard for us at this age. Thanks again and I am very excited for our trip!:thanks:

Others have covered the pool info well, so I won't address that. I will just say that you are definitely going to enjoy club service at the PPH; you absolutely made the right choice sticking with that over a non-club room at the DLH.

That is so good to hear! Thank you!

I'm actually excited because we have a pool at home so PPH pool is no big deal to us. We are excited about being able to try out the DLH and GCH pools for a change!

With the ages of your kids, the walk to DLH from PPH shouldn't be a problem. It was too far for my littlest ones at 2 and 4 yrs old. That said, you'll most likely be offered DLH pool and not an option of GCH. When we were there we were told that since GCH is a more premium hotel and at capacity, they keep that pool for the guests there. You'll love DLH pool though.
