PP Concierge or GCH Standard?

I've been re-thinking staying at Paradise Pier Concierge level. Given that we will not be able to take advantage of the Concierge level offerings in the AM due to early entry at 7am, I was thinking of switching to the Grand Californian in a Standard Room.

Not likely to use the concierge offerings as much as we would in WDW.
Concerned about the elevators at PPH.
Short visit only 3 park days but given we'll have early starts we'll be hanging around the hotel in the evening swimming and eating at the resort.

We love staying at BWI or BC in WDW so we can walk to 2 parks. GCH I think will blow that walk away.

How are the GCH standard rooms?
WWYD?

The standard room views are OK (Parking lot/PPH) .... we always do themepark views. If you are used to BWI/BC I would say choose GCH. PPH is not a Disney designed hotel ... IMO, it doesn't have that sameDisney "Feel" to it. The pool at the GCH is much better too. We've stayed at the PPH many times and the Themepark view of DCA is quite something though. Also, The PPH Club Level lounge is located on the second floor with no views to speak of. It's our least favoroite of the 3 DLR hotels CL's.

While many Standard View rooms do look at the parking lot, the view is still quite nice (I call it Sunset View :goodvibes ).

OP might want to request to be near the elevators adjacent to Napa Rose :thumbsup2
While most rooms in this area are an upgraded view type, there might be a few Standard View (or perhaps receive an upgrade :wizard:).

Kids? If so, I'd be looking at the DLH since you mentioned swimming. As you said, the early entry makes concierge at any of the hotels less attractive. Too bad they are not open earlier to coincide with park opening for their guests. I'd certainly be looking to switch if I were in your shoes.

3 kids 11, 10, 10

They are all pulling for DLH they love the look of those slides and the headboards.
PPH will not cut it pool wise if it is hot out.

GCH woodland view $469
DLH premium view $473
Pretty small difference. I don't pay for a view because honestly I don't stand and look out the window. I do pay for location!
We're not likely to go back to DLR in the next 5 years.

DH & DS are going to an Angels game one night, so the girls and I are just going to hang around the resort that night. But of course we could walk to another resort and explore if we wanted - we just couldn't swim there.

For that price difference, I would absolutely pick DLH.

If you don't pay for a view... is the only thing available at DLH a Premium View room? You certainly seem to be paying view prices for a room more expensive than one at GCH.

I'd go DLH either way.

1. Concerned about the elevators at PPH....

2. How are the GCH standard rooms?

1. If you're staying concierge, there is NO need to be worried about elevators. You'll be on concierge level and can call the glass elevator to you. (there are no buttons for it on non-concierge floors) And anyone can use the glass elevator to go up, but it's away from the normal elevator bank and people don't think they can use it (or are scared, as I used to be), so it's generally less busy.

2. Dark and tiny, IMO.

I would do PPH any level over the Grand.

The kids want slides, and not *swimming*? If they are actual swimmers, PPH is going to be better for that because it's a "normal" pool. If they are splashers and sliders, DLH is good.

I love staying at the GCH. I thought about PPH because of the view, but I really like staying in the Disney bubble. At PPH you have to cross a city street and go through the GCH entrance to get to Downtown Disney and the park gates. That is the shortcut. Now, frankly, none of the DLR pools will compare with Stormalong Bay. But, The GCH has a nice slide and hot tub. The chaise chairs are nice.

For us, we love the Grand. We have never stayed at PPH, but for us it is all about location. I love being able to go back to the hotel so easily. If you aren't going to be able to use the concierge, then that seems like a total waste of money. I'd rather use that money for a better hotel (either DLH or GCH). We would still like to stay at DLH one of these days since it is more "Disney", but I don't know if I can give up that location of the Grand.

I'm a GCH fan, however...

...with 2 adults and 3 kids, either PPH or DLH will be a better "fit" :goodvibes
Most rooms at GCH have 2 queen beds, so either all 3 kids share or 1 gets a sleeping bag (which the hotel provides). 2 queens and a day bed are quite common at DLH and PPH :thumbsup2

We have stayed at GCH several times and loved it. Just stayed at PPH in a standard room and was not impressed. I would choose GCH and request a bunk bed room. It has a trundle, so sleeps 5.
