Powerball winner starts donation requests Web site
CHARLESTON (AP) -- Powerball millionaire Jack Whittaker's Web site was launched Friday to handle requests for financial assistance.

The site, www.jackwhittakerfoundation.com provides forms for people to ask for portions of Whittaker's winnings.

Whittaker, a Scott Depot resident, won the nearly $315 million jackpot on Christmas Day. It was the largest undivided Powerball jackpot in history. So far, Whittaker has granted about $500,000 in donation requests.

I am not too comfortable with that. I wonder why he would need that on a generic form, you know what I mean?

Well, not because he plans to take anyone's money I guess.

My guess on the SSN is that he might want to do a background/credit check to make sure the person really does need the funds.

I would guess SSN might be needed for his own tax purposes, especially if it's a foundation. He may need to prove he gave money away to "real" people and not just hiding it somewhere to get out of paying taxes on it. The way the IRS works, this would not surprise me.

What a nice thing to do...imagine all the good this man could do for people...I hope he gets to honor many request for people who really need it.
