Hi guys!

Can anyone tell me what adapter I need in order to use my GHD'S straighteners out in America?! Do I need just a plug adapter? Or a power point adapter because of the voltage?

Also can someone advise where I can purchase these here before we go?

Thanks :))

there should be a tag on the straighteners or on the power adapter (if any)

if it reads : 100/240v 50/60hz (or something around those values) then you only need a plug adapter

if it doesn't mention that 110v / 60hz is within acceptable parameters, then you'll need a power converter too.

all I use to plug my ghds in is a travel adapter , £1 in home bargains and similar shops. what ghd's do you have mark4 ones will work over there as they are dual voltage. other ghds wont work as they dont heat up

I've taken my GHDs several times and only needed a travel adapter, although they don't seem to get quite as hot

Oh I don't know what mark they are :( they are definitely older then 3 years though! They are at least 5-6 years old (definitely getting my monies worth)! I'm not sure what the voltage says on them, will check when I get home! Will it say on the plug?

So I would need a plug adapter & power adapter because there old ones? Xx

or just leave them at home and go and buy a cheap one from Walmart etc..when you get there. I never use them but I know people that have done that..:)

If they are not dual volatge GHDs then really, don't take them. I took my non dual ones to the USA and also the Bahamas on my honeymoon 9 years ago, they took 45 mins to heat (seriously) and then didnt get nearly as hot as they do here. My dual ones work fine on a regular travel adapter though.

Mine say:

Model Number: GHD 4.2b
110-230v A.C. 60/50HZ 150W

Does that mean they should work?

When are you going? If you are going in summer (high humidity) just take a cap because your time straightening will be dust within five mins of getting outside ;)

I've looked and mine are model 3.1, then it says 220-240v?

So I assume mine wont work :( I'm gonna check my friends at the weekend as she thinks hers are model 4 and then she says we can swap whilst I'm on holiday :) so a slight silver lining!

I'm going 1st may until the 9th? Ill probably pin it up during the day but would need to style at night! I have that terrible mid wave hair that is neither straight nor curly! So no GHD's is not an option! :rotfl2:

It's 8 years since I've been to Florida but I certainly remember the bad hair days! I used to straighten my hair and then I'd come back looking like Monica from Friends when she went to Hawaii!! Hope DBF doesn't disown me when I look like a frizz head!

Ohana Sam. That's exactly same as what my GHD's say and I used them in Seattle a couple of years ago, I specifically bought a new pair that would work in US for that trip :)

For those with hair that has a tendency to frizz/curly in the humidity, I can highly recommend a product called Lee Stafford Poker Straight. It comes in a pink spray, which you spray onto your hair once you've washed, dried and straightened it and it acts like a protective coating. It's not sticky or oily and it works a treat on my hair (and my hair has serious 'Monica' tendencies in the humidity/damp).

Ooh I've used this on European holidays, I'll have to buy some for Florida. It smells nice too!

sorry yours wont work, well they will but they wont really heat up properly, as said you might as well buy $20 straighteners in walmart, I've done this before and they are just as good :)

Brill thanks for that Joh! :thumbsup2

I took my non-dual voltage GHDs last time and my hair was shocking!! :scared1: Husband actually says you can tell from the photos what was early and what was later in the holiday as my hair got increasingly frizzier as time progressed! Nothing could tame it!!:rotfl2:

Treated myself to new dual voltage ones when they were on offer back in the summer and am just off to order the Lee Stafford stuff as it's on 3 for 2 at Boots.

Here's hoping for happy holiday hair (albeit in 190ish days...) :)

Yay thank you :) I'm not looking forward to seeing what my hair turns out like haha, although my holiday for the past 5 years has been a week long music festival where I couldn't wash my hair or use straighteners so can't be much worse :rotfl:

Also I'd recommend argan oil, it keeps hair really shiny and frizz free. Pretty sure Primark do a really good one for about £2

Haven't heard of argan oil, I'll have to try buy some. I can see there being no pictures of me in Florida and millions of DBF to avoid embarrassing hair photos ending up on FB!
