I don't want to join facebook because I get too involved with things that are not my business, and I know the minute I join I will start that crazy cycle!

But all the good coupons are available if you "like" something on facebook, or have friended the company or product.

This stinks for someone like me, who has a good reason for not wanting to be a part of it, but still wants to get the good deal or coupon.

:confused3

:headache:

Just a general, budget related whine.

On a plus note though, I stocked up on the new PomX bars while they were on sale - WITHOUT a coupon - at Safeway. They are B1G1, so I got a case (12/case) of the yogurt/pomegranate, chocolate/pomegranate, espresso/pomegranate bars. 36 should last us a while.
:)

Why not create a facebook profile just for "friending" companies in order to get the coupons. You can use only your first and middle names, or even a ficticious name in order to avoid friend requests from people you know. This way you have access to the FB deals from companies but not the temptation to see what friends are posting.

Just curious why don't you just make a fake FB acct?

I like the idea of a fake account too. Plus you can make it private and have it where people can't request you. Best of both worlds?

I agree. I have been sorely tempted because of the coupons. I don't want a facebook account though. There a several reasons, none of them being a huge deal. Bottom line, I don't want one. So I miss those coupons. Oh Well.

This is me. Ya know. I don't want the drama, or like you, bottom line is I just don't want a facebook account. The fact that companies don't want your business or to give you coupon because you are not a "friend" of theirs is not cool. ;)

So true, not cool!! I don't want a facebook account either.

I can see where you're coming from - but not unlike so many other coupons or deals...

Disney Visa provides a lot of discount codes/coupons for WDW trips, but many people do not like credit cards or wouldn't be disciplined to own one.

Many stores give coupons to their store 'shoppers club' members...but many customers don't want stores to be able to track what they buy so they don't want to have one.

Same thing with FB...might not be everyone's 'thing' but those who do get advantages.

They want you to like or friend their company because they want your friends to see it and hope that they too would click the like button and hence are getting on the bandwagon of people they can advertise to. It is considered "going viral" and you are in essence doing the work for the company.

I miss out on all the deals too for the same reason - I don't want facebook...I don't want to have to bother with it.

I do have facebook, but I maintain it from my home. Soooooo I can't print coupons even if I do get them. I think it's discrimination... :lmao:

As a frequent FB user, I guess I haven't seen any coupons out there that I couldn't get just by signing up for a site's mailing list? I don't even remember the last time I saw a coupon for a store - I have JCP, Kohl's, Target, and many others. The only coupons I've snagged are ones that friends send to me that they've acquired elsewhere.

Social media is not going anywhere. It's here to stay. It's a low cost way for these companies to market and easy for the word to get out when a friend sends it to their friends and their friends send to their friends. Look at the Paranormal Activity movies - they got to be extremely popular, mainly through the use of social media. Very little money spent on marketing the movie, as would be normal with a big blockbuster. I never even saw a trailer on TV until the week it came out.

I don't see it as an unfair thing at all. It's out there for the masses. If you choose to sign up, great, you can be a part of it. If you don't, you don't. Life won't end if you don't get a coupon (sorry, it sounds smarty-ish, but I don't mean it to be!). Unless I was going to save a bunch of money, I wouldn't sign up for FB JUST for coupons.

The most valuable coupons we get are through email, having nothing to do with FB. We sign up for all the mailing lists we can (the ones we know send coupons) - Kohl's, JCP, Justice, Gordman's, Old Navy, Smokey Bones, ColdStone, etc. BTW, if you have a Smokey Bones, they have a WONDERFUL program. They are always sending $10 off a $20 purchase coupon, and the other day we got a $20 off coupon!

I do facebook. But, I also have a fb account I use just for the reasons the OP listed. I like all the companies and businesses to get coupons and sales. The added bonus, is it does not clutter my "real" fb page and I can still see what is going on with friends. ;)

I can tell you that I have a facebook account to keep in touch with my friends who don't live near me (swimming friends are all over the place). But I won't "like" too many pages since you are then giving them access to your personal information in order to do so. Sorry but giving out my personal information, which in turn shares your friend's information, just to get a coupon is not worth it to me. I'd rather keep my information private. There is little information about me on my facebook account as it is but I don't want to share what little there is.

I do this, I made up a fake facebook account just to get the coupons. I will warn you though that if you attach it to your e-mail that's how people find you. So I just ignore every friend request I get, I truly "have no friends" :rotfl:. This way I tell everybody, I don't do facebook and nobody gets offended. I have no desire to get in the middle of all that drama at my age. But I do want the coupons. :goodvibes

Okay - so I AM on facebook and apparently missing out on the coupons anyway, since this is the first I've realized there are coupons available. What exactly am I missing out on - what are some good places to "friend" or "like"? Thanks.

I don't want to get the Sunday paper, but they put all the good coupons in there :headache:
It is so not fair - why do those companies not want my business????

Challenge Butter, that's one.:cutie:

I have gotten a coupon or two from FB, but I also do better with email sign-ups through the stores I shop at frequently.
