Potty training

Every kid is so different. My 2 1/2 yo son has absolutely zero interest in it and I haven't even tried. My 1st DD was 28months and did it over night. All it took was a pack of barbie undies and she never had an accident. Then my 2nd DD was over 3yo and could not master the art. We both got so frustrated between the accidents and the not even trying, I was really starting to lose it. And then one day, like magic it happened, and she said to me, "mommy, when you are ready you just know it!" now why didn't I thinj of that? I guess thats why I am in no rush with the youngest.

There are lots of cute videos out there about potty training. My son loved Bear in the Big Blue House, so we bought the video "Potty Time with Bear" and it's really cute. Bear says in the video that in order to "learn to use the potty, all you have to do is listen to your body!" Very cute and my son loved it!

My DS started using his little potty for peeing every once in a while just after his second birthday but it took another year before he would go #2. We let him go at his pace. We transitioned him into Pull-Ups, and then when he was using the toilet all the time (by 3 years and a little over a month) we called them nightime pants and he only wore them at night.

We had a baby this fall when DS was 3 years, six months, and there was some regression but just a couple incidents. In fact, when he saw that the baby wore diapers he was done with his beloved nighttime pants he insisted on wearing. He hadn't wet at night in such a long time that I agreed.

One thing that seemed to make a difference with him was actually NOT using the training potty. He didn't want to use it and wanted to use the actual toilet instead. So we got stools for all the bathrooms and let him do his thing. I think it helped with #2 because he was much more comfortable and was really being a big boy.

Your dd is not ready for potty.
I did the same exact thing with dd2 a month before she turned 3 because we were going on a trip to WDW and I didn't want to be dealing with diapers. She was not interested at all. I put her back on diapers, went on the trip and a couple of weeks after we came back, she was going in the potty like her sister.
I remember one thing the pediatrician told me when I wanted my oldest to give up her bottle ( she went on with it till she was 3 but only at home ) nobody gets married in diapers and bottles , I was lucky though that potty training with her was almost non existent, she just decided one good day that today was the day and that was the last time using a diaper.

DH tried training DD for about 3 months, with no success. Our pediatrician said to ask her everyday if she wanted to wear big girl panties and if she said no then drop the subject till the next day. One week after having DD#2 I asked her the question, explained that she would be keeping them on and she agreed. She never wore another daytime diaper again.

I have to agree with everyone that when a child is ready they will go and it's just a lesson in futility to push them. We went through several stops and starts when DD was learning but once she was truely ready it happened almost overnight.

I agree that there have been a lot of changes for her recently and more to come. She will do it when she's ready.
I'd give it a rest for a couple of weeks and then try what we did at the childcare center I worked at. Start by sitting on the potty chair first thing in the morning for no more than 5 minutes. Praise her for trying even if nothing happens. Try again before lunch, after lunch, after nap, after dinner. Sort of like a schedule. Something will eventually happen. When she wets or poops tell her that's what you want to go in the potty.
Also, some kids find perching on the edge of that high adult toilet intimidating. If you don't want a potty chair then put a tall stool next to the toilet that she can rest her feet on. It gives them a sense of security, I think.

Maddy wasn't interested in the potty until about 2 or 3 months ago. I told her the only way she could wear her My Little Pony panties (or Princess, whichever she preferred) was if she went on the potty. The idea of wearing her big girl panties made her happy, so we've only had a few "accidents" in the last month. Actually, only 2.

It's been 2 weeks now, and she's been dry all night also! It's a relief...no more diapers or pull ups! :)

PM on the way.

If we had waited until ds#1 was ready, I'd still be waiting. He's 8. The dr said he'd take off the diaper to go to prom.
