Potty time at Oceaneer's Club

we are going on our 1st Disney cruise in Jan with our 8 and 3 1/2 year old boys. I know that a child must be "fully potty trained" for Oceaneer's Club, and our 3 1/2 year old is. However, being 3 1/2, he does still require some assistance in the bathroom at times (I.e. Help with pants, help getting onto toilet, maybe wiping if that situation comes up). Can anyone provide feedback based on past experiences with Club staff in regards to how accommodating they are in these situations?

Unless things have changed, CMs cannot assist in the bathroom. If there are issues (needing help), I'd suggest you check back periodically to see if your little one needs assistance.

"Fully potty trained" in Disney-speak means being able to recognize that they need to use the toilet, undress, use toilet, clean themselves, redress and wash hands.

That said, if there is an accident and your little one doesn't make it to the toilet in time, you will be paged to come to the club and take him/her out to be cleaned up/redressed as necessary.

I believe I've read that they've relaxed it a little bit. But they ask that YOU come in regularly to help with that. I don't think they will help with those things.

PrincessShmoo is correct. CMs cannot assist at all in the bathroom. If your little one cannot handle the entire process by himself, you will need to come back to the club periodically to assist him.

We went last month with our 4 yr old DS and 8 year old DD. We had them go to the club together. They initially played together until DD found new friends. I instructed her to check on DS every once in awhile in case he needed to go. Your 8 yr old could help with that. Also we made sure they also had potty breaks immediately before club drop off.

Yeah, our 4 year old was on her own...no help was offered or available.

Many camps, kids programming, etc have the same definition of "fully potty trained." Not just Disney.
Have your child wear elastic waistband bottoms instead of pants with zippers and buckles so they can take their pants off easily.
Cast members stand by the sinks to make sure they wash hands

Yes, they are. We were on The Wonder in September on our first cruise and I was very impressed with the bathroom facilities in the kids club. VERY child friendly. In fact I had to use the facilities once when checking on our kids, I felt like a giant using their bathroom ;-)

I would've been very shocked if they weren't kids sized.
I believe the public bathrooms also have 1 low sink for the kids to reach.

Same for us on the Wonder in May.

Also, I do not recall any low sinks or toilets in the public restrooms on the Wonder. Sometimes, there was a stepstool, but that was it.

We found that the CM's would remind or ask the younger kids if anyone needed to go to the potty and would stand next to the door to make sure everyone washed their hands before coming out. I made sure to take my 3 YO before dropping her off and made sure she knew where it was when we went to the first open house.

I believe a 3 year old is no longer allowed in the nursery. The DCL website says "youngsters up to 3 years of age" as in, once they are 3 the go to Oceaneer's. But you certainly could ask once onboard.

For the protection of both the children and the youth counselors, the counselors can't enter the bathrooms with the children, or help the children with toilet issues. They can page the parents to come assist.

Hi I am a youth activities Counselor. We always have a Counselor standing outside the bathrooms. If there is a child who needs some kind of help we can go in and help with 2 of us, which protects the child and us. If we need the parents to come the parents are not allowed in the kids bathroom. We have a family bathroom where the parent and child can go together. We do remind our younger children to go to the bathroom, but cannot physically take them if they say they don't need to go.

This summer we had the choice of nursery or club for our 3 yo.
